Basic principles of Quality Assurance of Czech´s study programmes according the Higher Education Act

Hlavní úlohu v procesu hodnocení kvality of HE institutions sehrává the Accreditation Commission. The Accreditation Commission during the course of verification of results in educational activity and higher education activity in the field of science, technology and art makes use of results of internal quality assessment of the HE institution, prepares peer review and after evaluation of achievements of overall activities of HE institutions it submits proposals to the Ministry of Education. The statements by the Accreditation Commission are the basis for issue of decisions by the Ministry of Education (e.g., recognition of the right of higher education institution to award the respective degree to graduates of the study programmes). The Accreditation Commission is nezávislé těleso (body), které jmenuje vláda (of the Government of the Czech Republic). The constitution of the Accreditation Commission is defined by Articles 78 – 86 of HE Act. The Accreditation Commission consists of specialized subcommittees focused on different areas of higher education.

An accredited study program has been reaccrediting after 3 years regularly. Each member of the accreditation commission could come personally to the university and verify the accredited study program during the three year period.
The rector of the university is an immediate partner of the Accreditation Commission. The rector is only one responsible person (according the HE Act) for a submission of request for an accrediting new study programme or for a reaccrediting. A rector (and his university leadership) has a power to actively act into the process of preparation of a new study programme.
Akreditační komise byla v červnu roku 2002 přijata za plnoprávného člena nevládní organizace zemí EU European Network for Quality Assurance (ENQA) a je též členem celosvětové sítě akreditačních agentur International Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).
