31. Number of students receiving financial assistance from college, university,

  1. Kabita Deka, a 6th semester student of the department has been awarded Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under the scheme Innovation in Science Pursuit for the period starting in 2011. The scholarship, funded by DST (GOI), of Rs. 80,000/- per annum will be availed for 5 years.

The institute feels honoured as Kabita Deka is encouraged by Rs 2000/- cash by Prof. S. Pattanayak, Ex Director, Institute of Mathematical Science and Application, Bhubaneswar, Govt. of India.



  1. More than 40 students has accorded state merit scholarship, from Government of Assam

33. Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning: Apart from the conventional method of teaching following teaching methods are adopted to improve student learning

  • Written study materials are supplied to the students

  • Students are encouraged for browsing the internet to go through the various topics of the syllabus

  • Use of audio visual technique for teaching

34. Participation in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) and Extension activities: All the faculties are engaged in various extension works such as



  • Donation of blood

  • Upliftment of natural Environment

  • Helping of Flood victims

Strength:

  • Relation between students and teachers are very much cordial

  • Although the senior most faculty Dr B. K. Dev Choudhury is appointed as the principal of the college, he takes regular classes in the department

Weakness:

  • Shortage of teaching faculties

  • Communication skill of the students are not up to the mark

  • Shortage of time for the faculty for persuing research

Opportunity

  • The college is very near to IITG and Gauhati University

Challenges

  • To increase the employability of the student

Future plan

  • To start master degree course in Physics with the allied subject such as Electronics and Nano technology

  • To cultivate research culture among the student

  • To recognized the departmental laboratory to carry out research

  • All the faculty members are encouraged to carry out active research.

  • To organized national seminers/ conferences with the aid of national funding agencies.

Students of the Dept. have been actively participating in different programmes of the institution and acknowledged for the performances in some special functions. Apart from that, the faculties of the Department are serving as the teacher’s in-Charge to the Secretaries of the College Student’s Union.
