The inaugural session was organized on 15th Nov. morning in presence of the participants, students, faculty members and invited guests. Dr Mohan Chandra Kalita, Prof. Dept of Biotechnology and coordinator, Institutional Level Biotech Hub, Gauhati University, was the chief guest. He talked about the recent advances in biotechnology and its scope in the present day context. He talked about different research aspects of biotechnology and its feasibility with reference to North East regional biodiversity.
On the first day, the first hands-on session was conducted by Dr Pranjan Barman. He is presently working as Junior Research Fellow in the Biotech Hub of Gauhati University. He delivered his lecture on protein separation and purification using SDS-PAGE and different chromatographic methods. He conducted the hands-on session on SDS-PAGE.
On 16th Nov., 2012 first session was conducted by our research scholar Mr Pankaj Kalita. He showed how to induce convulsion in mice model and explained the different future planning of the works to be conducted in the biotech hub.
Second Session was conducted by Dr Limpon Bora, Assistant Professor, dept of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tezpur (Central) University. He has taken both theory and practical session on protein and enzyme purification from microbes.
Evening session was conducted by Dr Pankaj Chetia, Research Associate, Assam (Central) University. He has taken both theory and practical classes on the drug designing. He explained about the computer aided drug designing (CADD) method.
On 17th Morning session was conducted by Dr Jogen Chandra Kalita, Prof., dept of Zoology, Gauhati University, on phytoestrogen.
Mrs Manalisha Deka, research scholar (Gauhati University) and Assistant Professor of BBK College and Mr Kaushik Mishra, Research Scholar, Gauhati University practically demonstrated the method of survival surgery and overactomy on mice.
The last session was conducted by Dr Bula Chaudhury and Dr Madan Gopal Barthakur (both are research scientist) from Gauhati Biotech Park. Both of them delivered their lecture on entrepreneurship development in biotechnology.
The valedictory function of the workshop was organized in the evening of the last day in presence of the participants, students, faculty members and invited dignitaries. Dr Probodh Borah, Prof., dept of Microbiology and Coordinator State Biotech Hub, College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Ghy-22 was invited as the chief guest. In the interactive session the participants and others exchange their views among themselves. Dr Borah explained about the scope and different advancement of Biotechnology in the present day and exchanged views among participants and students of the college.
