A special lecture on the topic “Application of Mathematics in different fields” was organised on 5th Oct. 2012. Prof. Bhaba Kr. Sarma, Head, Deptt. Of Mathematics, IIT, Gauhati and Prof Bhaben Ch. Kalita, Department of Mathematics GU, delivered lecture.

Special talk were organized on the topic “JOY OF PROVING AND DISPROVING”and “who wants to be a Millionaire?” on the occasion of birth anniversary of Ramanujan on 27th Dec.2013 .Prof. S .Thangavalu, IISc, Bangaluru, delivered lecture on the topic and an open Quiz( Mathematics related) was organized on 31th December,2012. Students from different schools and colleges of Kamrup District participated in the Quiz competition.
33. Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning
Before introducing a new topic different examples are given to suit the definition. Then related formula and properties are established and some problems are solved. Then students are given problems to solve in the classroom and home assignments are also given. The topics, which has 3-D diagram (surface of revolution) are presented by computer for better understanding of students. Classes are made interactive and teachers try to develop the thinking capacity of students.
34. Participation in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) and Extension activities
A Popular lecture on Mathematics was organized at Gopalthan High School on 7th June, 2013. Students of class ix, class x and teachers of Mathematics from neighbouring schools participated and took part in interaction with the resource person Prof. Krishna d Attray
35. SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans
Strength-

Though less number of students appeared in the final year (Major) examinations, the result is good and the enrollment is in increasing trend.
-
The enrollment of the students in the general course is very high and results are also good.
-
One third of the faculties engaged in active research
Weakness-
-
Unable to obtain university rank by the student in the final examination.

Low enrollment of the students in the Major course.
-
Required Number of faculty members as per UGC guide line is not available.

Separate demonstration room and mathematical kit is not available.

Number of books and journals are not sufficient in the departmental library.

Two third of the faculties are not involved in active research.
Opportunity
-
The only science college having major in Mathematics in greater Pub Kamrup area.
-
IITG and Gauhati University are within the radius of 15 kilometer.
Challenges
The vastness of the Higher Secondary Syllabus and low scoring in the Higher Secondary final examination reduces the number of students opting for higher study of Mathematics.

Strength: Student enrollment in the department of Philosophy is very high.
The academic result of the Department is satisfactory.
More than twenty students secured letter marks almost every year in the H. S. Final Examinations.
b)Weakness: Shortage of faculty members.
Lack of availability of attached toilet.
c) Opportunity: After graduation the student of Philosophy may study in different fields; such as P.G.in
Philosophy; LLB; B.Ed; MSW; MBA etc.
d) Challenge: In spite of its values and necessities in society the demand of Philosophy as a subject is decreasing, because students at present are mostly interested to technical and vocational courses. Philosophy as a subject is not job oriented.
Future Plans: To produce P.G.cource in Philosophy.
To conduct National seminars, conference and workshops.
