PRACTICAL TIPS TO PERSONAL WINDOWS WEB SERVER DESIGN AND OPERATION

Professor Abdul-Azeez Abdul-Jabaar, Department of ICT, Centre for Research

Development, Accra, Ghana
Abstract

The trend of technological advancement of individual and the world at large has become a worry in the mind of the researchers around the world. It is pertinent to say that, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is no doubt today a very out-and-out contrivance for social, economic and technological growth of every individual and the world over and has indeed made the entire life of man and animal over and has indeed made the entire world a Global - village. In order to be part of this trend, it is relevant to be down to business and update on current issues around the world. To achieve this accomplishment, one must unavoidably be a computer knowledgeable and must be practical able to interact with others all over the world through the use of internet. This paper intended to introduce possible steps and procedures involved in the sign of individual web-based server on our personal computers without the need of a master. In writing this research paper literature was reviewed, conclusion was drawn with relevant recommendations: that everybody should be internet oriented.
Introduction

The trend of technological advancement of individual and the world at large has become a worry in the mind of the researchers around the world (Hamel, & Sampler, 1998). It is pertinent to say that, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is no doubt today a very out-and-out contrivance for social, economic and technological growth of every individual and the world over and has indeed made the entire life of man and animal over and has indeed made the entire world a Global - village. In order to be part of this trend, it is relevant to be down to business and update on current issues around the world (Hamel, & Sampler, 1998). A web server is software that continuously runs on a computer and allows other computers to download documents from it (Sam, 2013). The nets called WEBS servers that are usually strident and terrifying machines in cold rooms without windows which can also be run under the desk in an individual home.

Running a home web server, may meaningfully call for a question or two. This may be called for when an individual wants to download files on his or her computer from anywhere and anytime. In getting this done, the will set up a home web server that will lets every individual with the right of password connect to your computer and download your MP3’s ideas from your home machine without pain (Zengali, 2013).

The needed Media

There is knowledge, skill nor practice in vacuum, but material is an aid for the attainment of an effort (Tom-Jerry, 2014). In order to achieve this task for the benefit of reservation the following materials are needed:

  • A Windows PC

  • An always-on Broadband (DSL or Cable) Internet Connection (Zengali, 2013). In the utilization of the above listed media, some vital steps are critically expected to be followed in order to have effective connection in the areas of browsing and all involvement. Such steps are:

Step 1: Install Apache HTTP Server

The first step involved in the theoretical workshop is to disable and stop any other firewall or server software you may have been running before, such as: Windows Firewall, Skype, Trillian or any other instant messaging applications (Cronin, 1998). This extremely important, and if it’s not done, can cause the server installation and start-up to fail miserably (Zengali, 2013). These programs and services can cause the server installation and start-up to fail without performing the expected purposes. These programs and services can be started and used again as usual once we’re done setting up the web server. Download apache HTTP server from this common link: http://httpd.appache.org/downooad.cgim using the link next to “Win32 Binary (MSI Installer).” Start the installation wizard (Sam, 2013).

Accept the license C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\. When you reach the screen prompting for server information, enter your own email address and home ip.net as the domain information, like so: Complete the installation wizard using the “Typical installation” setting. When it’s done, open your web browser and go to http//localhost/. If the page you see read, “If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software in this system was successful,” you’re golden (Zengali, 2013).

Step2. Configure Apache to Share Documents from the Right Folder

For any collection downloadable using your new web server and all your music files are located in C:\Gina\My Music. Using a plain text editor like Notepad, open the C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf file. This Apache’s configuration file, which looks long and scary, but most of the defaults will work just fine for us. We just have to change a few things (Sam, 2013). In this httpd.conf file, comment out the line that starts with DocumentRoot and add another with your directory, like this: DicyebtRoot “C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2htdocs” DocumentRoot “C:/Gina?My Music” (Zengali, 2013).

Then, comment out the line that starts with . Last, about 20 lines below that Step3 Password your Web site Documents

To avoid the download of your music and any other important files, therefore, your bandwidth will be preciously made in which a password promptly created. First, open a command prompt (go to the Start menu, choose Run, then type cmd.) cd “C:\Program Files\Apache

software foundation\Apache2.2\bin” (Sam, 2013). Then create a password file by typing: Htpassed –c “C:\Documents and Settings\ vino \mypasswordfile .txt” gina replace the path with the path of your new password file (which should in any folder EXCEPT the web server’s document root).
Replace vino with the username you want to use. When prompted, enter the password you want to set up. Once you’ve done that, a password file will be created. Now we want to apply that login to your music directory (Zengali, 2013). Open up a new file in a plain text editor like Notepad. Copy and paste the following into it: AuthType Basic AuthName “this is a private area, please log in “AuthUserfile “C:\Documents and Settings\gina\my_password_file .txt” AuthGroupfile / dev/ null Require valid-user Make sure you replace “C:\Documents and Settings\ vino \my_password_file .txt” in the text with your own password file created above. Save this new file IN YOUR WEB SERVER DOCUMENT ROOT (in this case, C:\Vino\My Music) and the name it .htaccess (Cronin, 1998). Don’t forget the dot in the beginning, before. Hatches. So, in this case, we’re saving the file as C:\Gina\My Music\ .htaccwss (Brown, 1998).
We should note: if we’re using Notepad to create your .htaccess file, when we save the file, put quotes around the filename – “.htaccess” – so that Notepad doesn’t automatically put a .txt extension on the file. If there’s a txt file extension, your password won’t work! Now, using your web browser, go to http://localhost/. You should be prompted to log in by entering your username and password you set up in your password file (Brown, 1998).

Congratulations and welcome aboard surfer’s ship.

Conclusion

To conclude, after the successful installation of the apache web server software, your personal computer or laptop becomes a web server that can be downloaded from and uploaded to as long as the computer is internet connected.

Introduction

The activities of business of our present day have become a thing of forceful concept. This has been ringing a warning bell against tourism businesses. In view of this, the tourism businesses have to work hard in order to maintain and develop their competitiveness in our immediate environment and the society in general. If this is done, the tourist industry will be rapidly becoming more professional and embracing developments in all aspects of life. In the ever changing economic environment, where alternative sources of revenue are sort by developed economies to augment for the growing population, Nigeria is not left out, in seeking alternative to the revenue from crude oil export, even in the face of dwindling income in recent times. Technological breakthroughs have exposed the world to the era of fast moving cruise ships, trains and coaches, airplanes and different forms or modes of travelling for tourist on leisure and recreations; global technological advancement or revolution has aided the movement of people from one destination to another. Tourism according to Walker (2007) has become a global economic enhancer for most countries of the world.

Therefore, the success of the tourism business to certain extent depends on its ability to acquire and utilize updated information to assist its management and marketing process in aid of future endeavours. Hence, Information Communication Technology (ICT) assists organization to manage information dynamically and influence business competitiveness through assisting decision making in appropriate investment and an avenue to reach out to the product or services consumers. Tourist expects to find functional information, educational information, and emotional information on heritage websites for their use in making decision of destination to visit (Porias and Civilly, 2006 in Buhalis, 2007). Based on the above facts, this study is to assess information technology role in rural tourism marketing with focus on Edo State in Nigeria as a measurement for the world tourism business growth and development.
