Azerbaijan might not be on the global radar and at the forefront of our minds, but the nation gave birth to several influential Azerbaijanis who made worldwide contributions.
She was an Azerbaijani ophthalmologist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and professor. She was the wife of third President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and the mother of the fourth President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
Much of Aliyeva's working life was spent at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies. She devised and introduced new methods for treatment of ocular diseases. She was the author of 14 monographs, hundreds of research papers, and 12 rationalization proposals.
He was son of the third khan of Baku Mirza Muhammad Khan II. He later served as an officer in the Imperial Russian Army and participated in the Russo-Persian War of 1826–1828. He later retired and settled in Quba.
Also known by his pen name QodsI (Azeri: Qüdsi), many Azerbaijani scholars view Bakikhanov as among their first thinkers and historians. He is credited with being the first person that wrote a "scholarly monograph on the history of greater Shirvan"; the area that would later make up most of the Republic of Azerbaijan.His Qanun-e Qudsi, was the first Persian grammar manual published.
Yusif Mammadaliyev was an Azerbaijani and Soviet chemist. He was a Doctor of Chemistry, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR, and was the president of the National Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR.
The main scientific works of Yusif Mammadaliyev are related to catalytic progressing of oil and Fuel oil. He is the founder of petrochemistry in Azerbaijan. He suggested new methods of chlorination and bromination of different hydrocarbons with participation of catalysts and especially showed the ways of obtaining carbon tetrachloride, chloromethane, dichloromethane and other valuable products by means of chlorination of methane, initially in stationary catalyst, and then in hot layer.
Mathematician and computer scientist Lotfi Zadeh has an impressive record. Baku-born before moving to Iran and later the United States, the prominent figure developed and pioneered a new mathematics concept called fuzzy-sets.
Applications range from unmanned devices to car mechanics, air-conditioning and medicine. Lotfi is credited for contributing to the field of time signals, which later revolutionised the digital world.
To put this great scientist’s achievements into perspective, his publications received more than 180,000 citations at the time of his death. Arguably, Lofti ranks as the most influential Azerbaijani scientist of all time.
Elshan Mahmud oglu Hajizadeh is an Azerbaijani professor, doctor of economic sciences Academician of International Academy of Sciences, Academician of International Academy of Management,an Academician of International Transport Academy, foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Member of the International Union of Economists.
He is the author of 227 proceedings (371,3 p.sh.), including 10 monographs, 1 textbook, 3 educational programs, 5 methodical instruction, 1 methodical recommendation, 1 bibliographic collection, 8 brochures, about 30 articles on various social themes.
He made reports at the international conferences, congresses and symposium in foreign countries; more than 30 scientific articles have been published in various editions of a number of foreign countries. In 1997–2010 years he was a lecturer at Tefekkur University, in 2010–2018 years, he worked as a professor at the- Azerbaijan State Economic University "International Economic Relations" Department and "International Economics" Departments.
