The harmonization of the curricula degrees on a European level was pointed out as priority issue especially in what concern mobility programs. The harmonization of the curricula degrees will increase the quality of a mobility program. A university will understand easily witch disciplines the students should have to take, integrating students in a most appropriated program adapting it properly to each student needs. The typically bureaucracy normally associated to mobility programs will decrease and will bring a lot of benefits for the ones who wish to work abroad.
To achieve a European harmonization of the curricula would cause complicated difficulties. It’s an issue that is not even easy to deal in a national perspective since there are huge differences between educational institutions inside the same country. At an international level would cause much more obstacles. It was focused by the participants that these issues can be able to set up and implement in technical areas, although in humanistic areas will be much more complicated.
A common strategy respecting the countries differences should help to create a statement that should describe what we (students) need to be an engineer. This statement should traduce the quality in European education area.
For quality assessment for European education it’s important to create a common framework taking into account the quality of pedagogically and technical issues. An independent body should resolve that assessment, evaluating the students and companies feedback and comparing models, structures and laboratories, emphasising the importance of research.
The most relevant aspects emphasised by students when they plan to make a mobility program are:
-
Culture
-
People
-
Financial
-
Fee’s
-
Social part
The major difficulties that a students can find when taking a mobility program are related with the technical differences, cultural and social habits differences, language, university bureaucracy and integration.
The students found the web portal interesting and a very useful tool, they considered the content of the university program as important information available but not enough. It was also considered crucial available a:
-
Frequently asked questions area
-
The contact of contact person of the different education institutions
-
Links to the universities, so that the student could reach the programs at the host university web page
-
Social aspects
-
Contacts of students that took part in a mobility program in that university
However students found this project complicated in what concern updated information, they have some doubts if the universities will upload frequently the information.

D3 Minutes of the meeting of Trencin Slovakia ELOSYS’2006
(J. Jasenek & O. Bonnaud)
This event gave the opportunity to present the THEIERE and EIE-SURVEYOR thematic networks, activities and outcomes in a meeting comprising all the Technical universities of Slovakia.
In the Annual exhibition “Electroteknika a Informatika 2006”, ELOSYS’06, from 10 to 13 October 2006, where all the Technical universities of Slovakia were represented, a special session in parallel with an exhibition by industries and companies of the field was devoted to Harmonization of Education in Electrical and Information Engineering in Europe. This session was animated by both Slovakian professors, V. Jancarik and J. Jasenek.
This session was scheduled in order to give some informations about the works initiated by the EAEEIE association and more especially in the frame of THEIERE and SURVEYOR thematic networks since the middle of the ninety’s.
The presentations given by the Surveyor members were:
-
The Design for study program for present ICT by J. Jasenek,
-
THEIERE and SURVEYOR Thematic Networks in the frame of EAEEIE: Towards the European Harmonization of the education in Electrical and Information Engineering by O. Bonnaud, past-President of EAEEIE Association
This last talk highlights several points more especially the Approach of Bologna process in the field of Electrical and information engineering, and the accreditation aspect which was a main point of the both thematic networks.
This session gathered representative of all the Slovakian higher institutions. Unfortunately the attendance of students was not high but fruitful discussions were arisen during this half-day session with several deans or managers of the Slovakian technical faculties in the field, and more especially adaptation of Slovakian high education to Bologna scheme.
B7’ Minutes of the meeting IEEE in Belgrade (Serbia)
(O. Bonnaud)
Surveyor partner members participating: O. Bonnaud, F. Klett
This event was organized by IEEE Region 8 Education Society Chapters, was the annual chair meeting, and was held in Belgrade, Serbia, the15 - 16 October 2006.
For this international meeting a special session was scheduled in order to show the evolution of Education in Europe (Region 8 of IEEE) in comparison with other Regions in the world. In this specific session two presentations were done on Sunday 15th October, 2006:
-
“Bologna Chart, Program in EE and Perspective”,
-
“The European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE): Mission and Main activities”,
both by O. Bonnaud, past President of EAEEIE association.
The goal of these presentations was first to summarise the Bologna process with the main events since the Sorbonne meeting and the main objectives, more especially to promote the mobility of students in Europe thanks to the harmonization of the studies and of the diplomas. Because this aspect concerns all the fields of studies from human sciences to engineer ones, the second step was more devoted to electrical and information engineering, field of IEEE association.
It was clear after the presentations and during the related panel session that the works made in the frame of the SURVEYOR TN is really included in the questions to solve worldly, more especially the decrease of students in this field, the strong and very fast evolution of the technologies, and the worldwide mobility of the graduate and post-graduate students in their successive professional positions.
