Type of partners required

We are looking for potential partners in the new Member States. I'm taking the liberty of asking you to check the interest of  your national research structures in your countries. On the proposal there is a strong attention of the Italian Government due to its ambitious objectives related to the sensitive topics concerned: participation of citizens to the governance processes and access/management of information.

HEALTH-2007-2.1.1-6: High throughput analysis of lipids and lipid-protein interactions

Project Objectives & Programme Criteria

Our laboratory uses mass spectrometry in conjunction with other methods to obtain data on the structure of proteins and to characterize interactions of proteins with their partners. We recently developed a new approach, based on hydrogen-deuterium exchange and mass spectrometry, to characterize interactions between proteins and lipidic vesicles. We identified, with a few amino acids resolution, the interacting region between apomyoglobin and vesicles (a revised manuscript is submitted to J Mol Biol) and we are currently working on several proteins interacting with membranes. Possibilities to determine the protein-membrane interface and to probe the conformational changes induced by ligand binding.

Laboratory of Sciences of the Marine Environment (LEMAR, Bretagne) is interested to take part in proposals for the following calls of FP7:

ENV.2007.2.2.1.1. Development of advanced ecosystem models and methodologies for the management and the sustainable use of resources

ENV.2007.2.2.1.3. Habitat - marine species interactions in view of ecosystem based management in the deep-sea
ENV.2007.2.2.1.4. Dynamic of marine ecosystem in a changing environment
ENV.2007.4.1.1.2. Contribution to a global biodiversity observation system
ENV.2007.4.1.3.2. Monitoring the ocean interior, seafloor, and subseafloor

The indicative topic "Understanding and Forecasting Bioinvasions" in prevision of the future call (Sustainable management of resources / Sub-activity: Evolution of marine environments)

Description

The laboratory of Sciences of the Marine Environment (LEMAR), which was set up in 1991, forms part of the European Institute for Marine Studies (IUEM) of the University of Western Bretagne (UBO).

The research activities of the LEMAR concern the Earth and Life Sciences.

Objectives:
Understanding and modeling marine systems within the biosphere are the main aims of the studies of the laboratory. The objectives are to define the environment and the organisms’ characteristics and to determine their interactions.

3 research themes:

  1. "Physics and biochemistry in marine environment": deals with physical and biochemical processes in the ocean and with their potential impact on the climate of the system Earth.

  2. "Responses of the coastal ecosystems to global changes": studies the processes regulating behavior and evolution of the coastal environment in response to anthropic perturbation.

  3. "Biology of the interactions and adaptations": the aim is to understand the process constraining the organism response in the coastal environment to natural variations of the environment and to anthropic pressure: the approach to the subject matter covers the cell - organism - population level.

The laboratory is involved in on-going national and international scientific programs: IGBP (JGOFS, LOICZ, GLOBEC, IMBER, SOLAS), PNEC and in particular in the American NSF.

The laboratory is also involved in several European Networks of Excellence - EURO-OCEANS and Marine Genomics.

FP7: Environment or SSH (Germany, 20.02.)

Funding Source/Programme

According to FP7 the main interests of the Institute for Urban, Regional and Environmental Planning at HafenCity University Hamburg, Germany is within the areas of Environment (including climate change) and Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities. Regarding RP7 Environment our main interests are within the following sub-activities:
− 6.1.1 Pressures on environment and climate (particular focus on pressures on Megacities, air quality and climate)
− 6.2.1 Conservation and sustainable management of natural and man-made resources and biodiversity (particular focus on sustainable demand for space and resources as well as on urban metabolism and resource organisation in the urban fabric)
− 6.4.2 Forecasting methods and assessment tools for sustainable development (especially for sustainable development indicators and engaging civil society) However, in FP7 Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities some activities will also deal with sustainability indicators.

Regarding the FP7 Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities calls we would like to participate especially in the following areas and topics which correspond to our research specialization:

− 8.1.1 Interactions between knowledge, economic growth and social well-being (particular focus on interactions between knowledge, economic growth, spatial development and social well-being)
− 8.2.2 Regional, territorial and social cohesion (particular focus on regional development challenges in an evolving international context as well as on social platform on cities and social cohesion)
− 8.5.2 Diversities and Commonalities in Europe (particular focus on histories and identities
– articulating national and European identities as well as on creativity, culture and democracy)
