FP7- SHS- 2007- 8.4.3.1 “Europe seen from outside”

Description

Institute of Americas, in Rennes (gathering University of Rennes2, Rennes 1, Institute of Political Studies, Agrocampus) is seeking to join a FP7 research proposal in the course of elaboration as partner on the following theme

Theme: Europe seen from outside / Europe seen from the American continent.

North and South American Elites’ perceptions of the Mother Continent since 1945.

If the 19th century mostly perceived the New World as a replica of the mother country (as underlined by Alexis de Tocqueville), the twentieth century has seen the drifting apart of the two continents. North and South American elites have indeed played down the role exerted by Europe especially after 1945, encouraging new symbolic constructions directly opposed to the European model.

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, new factors (political, economic, linguistic, cultural) mainly due to hemispheric integration and to globalization have led to a new awareness of the role played by Europe. Cultural representations of the mother continent are currently revisited and complexified while new possible interactions between American and European capitals are redefined. The originality of this project, beside the interdisciplinary approach it privileges, consists in analyzing the very specificities of the -North versus South-  American  approach in shaping such views, while trying to  map out (synthetically)  the “Americanness” of this continental perception of Europe

Key words: Perceptions of Europe. North and South American Elites. Historical evolution  since 1945. Cultural exchanges between New World capitals and their respective European counterparts. Hemispheric integration. Circulation of  new symbolic constructions . Continental cultural representations. Globalization.

Objective:  The Institute of Americas could work more specifically on the evolution of the relations between American countries and their respective European capitals and analyze it through its cultural and artistic expressions (literature, painiting, cinema, visual arts, museums) . Canada, Quebec, The United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina would be the privileged topics as these countries have benefited from massive waves of European immigration and have developed a special relationship to their mother capitals.(ex: Montréal, Toronto, New York, Mexico, Rio or Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires vs Paris, London, Madrid or Barcelone, Lisbonne, Madrid or Rome)

Our competency:  The Institute of Americas federates 20 research teams composed of 80 specialists working on North and South Americas.

Interdisciplinary approach (Institute of Political Sciences, Department of Economics, Law, Social Sciences,  Art and Literature, foreign languages )

INNOVA PROTEOMICS Biotechnology industry – SME is seeking to join a research proposal in the course of elaboration as partner on the following themes:

- Health-2007-2.3.1-1: novel targets for drugs against gram negative bacteria

- Health-2007-2.4.1-1: Translating clinical omics technology into innovative cancer biomarker

Description

Key words: Proteomics, Biomarkers, Toxicoproteomics, Mass spectrometry, Drug discovery, Anti-infectious peptides

Expertise: CRO in proteomics

Our competency:

- Innova Proteomics is a Contract Research Organization in Proteomics. Our high throughput proteomics core facility is built upon the combination of protein high-resolution electrophoretic separation techniques and liquid chromatography, with mass spectrometry and bio-computing. It is also specialized in differential proteomics profiling approaches such as 2D-DIGE, ICAT, ICPL and ProteinChip.

- Thanks to partnerships with leading equipment suppliers, we benefit from state-of-the-art technologies and most advanced techniques, while being able to guaranty both quality and repeatability of our analyses.

- Furthermore, our platform is scaled up for high-throughput proteomics. Indeed, we have systematized the use of robots in order to run both simultaneously and in short terms large pools of samples. We also provide our clients with a total confidentiality and follow-up on their projects, with the use of barcode and transponders systems (samples, reagents, equipments, methods, and operators) and the use of a quality & project management software in accordance with pharmacy industry world standards

- Additionally, Innova Protemics uses the same technological platform for its R&D program aiming at identifying novel anti-infectious peptides form various biological samples and models. As an example, Innova Proteomics has discovered and patented to date 26 novel human anti-infectious peptides.
