"Waste" means any substance or object which the holder disposes of or is required to dispose of pursuant to the provisions of national law in force

COUNCIL DIRECTIVE of 18 March 1991 91/156/CEE amending Directive 75/442/EEC on waste

COUNCIL DIRECTIVE of 26 April 1999 of the landfill of waste 1999/31/CE
With a view to meeting the requirements of Directive 75/442/EEC, and in particular Articles 3 and 4 thereof, the aim of this Directive is, by way of stringent operational and technical requirements on the waste and landfills, to provide for measures, procedures and guidance to prevent or reduce as far as possible negative effects on the environment, in particular the pollution of surface water, groundwater, soil and air, and on the global environment, including the greenhouse effect, as well as any resulting risk to human health, from landfilling of waste, during the whole life-cycle of the landfill
COUNCIL DECISION 2003/33/CE of 19 December 2002 establishing criteria and procedures for the acceptance of waste at landfills pursuant to Article 16 of and Annex II to Directive 1999/31/EC
This Decision establishes the criteria and procedures for the acceptance of waste (non hazardous, hazardous and inert waste) at landfills in accordance with the principles set out in Directive 1999/31/EC and in particular Annex II thereto.
1. This Decision shall take effect on 16 July 2004.
2. Member States shall apply the criteria set out in section 2 of the Annex to this Decision by 16 July 2005
Directive 2000/76/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 December 2000 on the incineration of waste
The aim of this Directive is to prevent or to limit as far as practicable negative effects on the environment, in particular pollution by emissions into air, soil, surface water and groundwater, and the resulting risks to human health, from the incineration and co-incineration of waste.
This aim shall be met by means of stringent operational conditions and technical requirements, through setting emission limit values for waste incineration and co-incineration plants within the Community and also through meeting the requirements of Directive 75/442/EEC
