COUNCIL DIRECTIVE of 12 December 1991 on hazardous waste (91/689/EEC)

'Hazardous waste` means: - wastes featuring on a list to be drawn up in accordance with the procedure laid down in Article 18 of Directive 75/442/EEC on the basis of Annexes I and II to this Directive. These wastes must have one or more of the properties listed in Annex III.

You can find in these documents 14 criteria to characterize hazardous waste



A list of waste can be found in the 2000/532/EC: Commission Decision of 3 May 2000 establishing a list of wastes pursuant to Article 1(a) of Council Directive 75/442/EEC on waste and establishing a list of hazardous waste pursuant to Article 1(4) of Council Directive 91/689/EEC on hazardous waste

This Commission Decision has been modified by the Commission Decision 2001/118/CE of 16 January 2001

COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 94/67/EC of 16 December 1994 on the incineration of hazardous waste

The aim of this Directive is to provide for measures and procedures to prevent or, where that is not practicable, to reduce as fas as possible negative effects on the environment, in particular the pollution of air, soil, surface and groundwater, and the resulting risks to human health, from the incineration of hazardous waste and, to that end, to set up and maintain appropriate operating conditions and emission limit values for hazardous waste incineration plants within the Community

COUNCIL DIRECTIVE of 26 April 1999 of the landfill of waste 1999/31/CE

With a view to meeting the requirements of Directive 75/442/EEC, and in particular Articles 3 and 4 thereof, the aim of this Directive is, by way of stringent operational and technical requirements on the waste and landfills, to provide for measures, procedures and guidance to prevent or reduce as far as possible negative effects on the environment, in particular the pollution of surface water, groundwater, soil and air, and on the global environment, including the greenhouse effect, as well as any resulting risk to human health, from landfilling of waste, during the whole life-cycle of the landfill


COUNCIL DECISION 2003/33/CE of 19 December 2002 establishing criteria and procedures for the acceptance of waste at landfills pursuant to Article 16 of and Annex II to Directive 1999/31/EC

List of wastes acceptable at landfills for inert waste without testing and Waste not appearing on this list must be subject to testing to determine if it fulfils the criteria for waste acceptable at landfills for inert waste. Leaching limit values (As, Ba, Cd, Cr tot, Cu, Hg, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Zn, chloride, fluoride, sulphate, phenol index, DOC, TDS) and LOI, TOC, ANC. Limit values exist for all parameters except for ANC.
