Guided Composition
Read the conversation between Tom and Miss Grey again. Think of an excuse for being late for school, college, or work. Write down how you told a friend what happened when you used the excuse to your teacher, lecturer, or boss. Report what you said and what he or she said. Begin like this:
“I was late for school (or college or work) again last …. When I went in…”
Transfer Exercise
Report a number of things that different people have said to you in the past couple of days.
For example, if a friend said to you yesterday: “I’m going to a party tonight.”
You write: ”My friend told me he was going to a party last night.”
