The present simple for a schedule
Mark: What time does your train leave tomorrow?

Sarah: Seven twenty-three, in the morning.

It gets to Paris at eleven twenty-three.
We can use the present simple for the future when we are talking about a timetable, usually a public one such as a train timetable.

The train leaves at seven twenty-three tomorrow morning.

The match starts at half past seven.

Next Friday is the thirteenth.

Exercise I. Aylin and Jayla are twins. They look the same but Aylin is always very lucky and Jayla is always very unlucky. Read what each girl is going to do next week and what the weather will be like. Decide which sentences are about Aylin and which sentences are about Jayla.

  1. She’s going to wash her car. It’ll rain.

  2. She’s going to the beach. It’ll be sunny and hot.

  3. She’s going to take her kite to the park. It won’t be windy.

  4. She’s going to run in the marathon. It’ll be cool and fine.

  5. She’s going to walk to work. It’ll be fine and sunny.

  6. She’s not going to wear a coat to work. It’ll be cold.
