Do you know that to be laconic comes after
Laconia in Greece?
The Lacons lived in a part of Southern Greece called Laconia. They were very just and honest. One of their rules was always to speak briefly. The best example to this is the reply the Lacons gave to Philip of Macedonia.
Philip wanted to become master of all Greece. When only Laconia remained unconquered by him he sent a letter to the brave Lacons.
He wrote: “If I invade your country, I,ll smash it, destroy your villages and cities”.
In a few days an answer was brought to him with only one word in it - “If.”
The longest day must have the end
(Proverb)
