Houses in Britain
There are about 25 million homes (houses and flats) in Britain. Sixteen million families live in their own homes. Five million people rent their homes from local councils and 2 million live in private rented houses.

A typical British house is for a family of two to four people. There are other houses next to it and opposite it, and there is a garden at the back and another at the front. A typical house has two floors. On the ground floor, there is a sitting room, a dining room, and a kitchen. On the first floor, there’s a bathroom and the bedrooms. Small houses have one or two bedrooms. Large houses have three or more.

The White House
The White House, the official home of the United States’ Presidents, was not built in time for George Washington to live in it. Its construction began in 1792 and was ready for its first inhabitants, President and Mrs. Adams, in 1800.

When the Adams moved in, the White House was not yet completed, and the Adams suffered from many inconveniences. Thomas Jefferson, the third president, improved the comfort of the White House in many respects and added many new architectural features such as the terraces on the east and west ends. When British forces burnt the White House on August 24, 1814 President Madison had to leave, and it was not until 1817, that then President James Monroe was able to rebuild the residence. Each U.S. President has been occupying the White House since then.

JOKES, LAUGHS, SMILES
Young wife to her husband, that’s why I can’t stand you. You are so unpredictable. On Monday you liked the potatoes, Tuesday you liked the potatoes, Wednesday you liked the potatoes, Thursday you said you liked potatoes, Friday you liked the potatoes, Saturday you liked the potatoes and now all of sudden on Sunday you say that you don’t like potatoes.”
