Our University

I study at Azerbaijan Technical University. It is located in 25 Hussein Javid Avenue. Our University is one of the oldest educational centers in our country. It is a State University, that was founded in 1920 as Azerbaijan Industrial Institute, and in 1950, it was divided into Azerbaijan Oil Institute (Azerbaijan Oil Academy) and Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute.

In 1994, Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute became Azerbaijan Technical University.

Our University trains engineers in different fields of industry where students are involved in practical and research work to gain practical skills in their areas of study. There are 9 faculties in our University. They are Automation and Computing Equipment, where students are specialized in automation, and control systems, electronics and microelectronics, design and technology of electric devices, information, and computing technique. Aeromechanics, where students are specialized in heat power, alternative sources of energy, internal combustion engines, automobiles, and conditioning, and, exploitation of auto transport. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering: where, students are specialized in telecommunication, electro engineering, electro mechanics, and electro technology. Engineering Business and Management: where, students are specialized, in industrial economics, and management. Machine Building: where, students are specialized in automation equipment, and technology of machines production. Technological Machines: where, students are specialized in devices, technological machines, and equipment, standardization, and certification. Metallurgy: where, students are specialized in metallurgy, material science, and technology of new materials. Radio Engineering and Communication: where, students are specialized in radio engineering. Railway Transport: where, the students are specialized in rail way, and its exploitation, locomotives and trucks’ industry, automatics, and communication on the railway transport.

The normal length of the degree course is four years, after which the students take Bachelor’s degree, and two years after which, the bachelors take Master’s degree, and two more years for post graduate courses.

The administrative body of the University consists of the Rector- the head of the University.

Moreover, four vice-rectors: for Education, Research and Development, Relations, Students Affairs.

The University has a lot of laboratories, research departments, and a rich library, as well as, other educational facilities. The University organizes lectures arranges tests and examinations.

I’m a second year student of the …faculty. We learn different subjects such as physics, chemistry, higher math., philosophy, and a lot of special subjects and three foreign languages – English, French, and German. I understand the importance of a foreign language especially, English because almost 90 per cent of special literature is in English. Besides, I think any literate person should speak a foreign language.
