GLAMOUR WOTY LIVE Summit and Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2017 On Monday, November 13th, Glamour held the second annual Women of the Year LIVE Summit and the 27th annual Women of the Year awards for the first time in Brooklyn, New York. The day was an historic event for Glamour full of innovative and politically relevant content, in addition to surprise announcements and guests.
The theme of the summit was "We Are All Leaders," and showcased a diverse range of powerful talks and dialogues, interactive workshops, and compelling performances with one message: that every woman can change her life and our world. The year's most iconic women spoke with truth, power, and humor on deeply personal issues such as career advancement, mental health, identity, fashion, reproductive rights, sexual violence, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, and much more. In a surprise Q+A, editor-in-chief Cindi Leive welcomed Vice-PresidentJoe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden on stage for a conversation about family, relationships, politics, and the current conversation around sexual harassment. Other surprises included Aerie's announcement of their newest #AerieReal spokesperson (presented by Iskra Lawrence), US Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, and Barbie's announcement of their Ibtihaj Muhammad Barbie (presented by Ashley Graham).
The awards later in the evening took place at the newly renovated King's Theater and recognized Glamour's 10 Women of the Year honorees including supermodel Gigi Hadid, the women who facilitated the historic Women's March, doyenne of film and TV Nicole Kidman, record-breaking astronaut Peggy Whitson, artist and advocate Solange Knowles, hero of late-night Samantha Bee, outspoken politician Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Syrian refugee turned education activist Muzoon Almellehan, fashion revolutionary Maria Grazia Chiuri, and the wonder woman behind the year's biggest blockbuster, director Patty Jenkins.
Many more stars took the stage as presenters throughout the evening including Zendaya, Drew Barrymore, Nick Jonas, Tracee Ellis Ross, Serena Williams, Jessica Williams, and Sofia Coppola, Lynda Carter, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The night was hosted by Billy Eichner, "The only decent man left in Hollywood," opened by Chloe x Halle, and the show was closed out by the Resistance Revival Chorus.
Powerful interstitial moments punctuated the awards ceremony, including a #MeToo series of monologues from Aly Raisman, Cameron Russell, Ann Cardenas (formerly NYPD), and Anita Hill, and a "The Firsts" segment featuring Ruby Bridges, Katie Couric, Laverne Cox, Ibtihaj Muhammad, and Sarah Weddington.
After the ceremony, VIP guests joined Cindi Leive in a pop-up restaurant created by Skylight and sponsored by SoFi.
