Using Instagram for Professional Purposes

Prerequisites

No prerequisites. There is no tuition, and the students may post their completed learning assignment into Moodle any time during the academic year, preferably three weeks before the desired registration of the grade.



Learning objectives and assessment

Upon successful completion of the course, the students can:

Create and update a useful Instagram profile.
Use Instagram effectively for professional purposes.

The successful completion of the course is assessed on a scale of 1–5, using the criteria in the assessment matrix below.



Contents

The students search and study relevant sources independently about how to create a useful Instagram profile and how to use Instagram effectively for professional purposes in their own career. The assessment matrix will guide the students towards the desired goal.



Business connections

The implementation of the learning assignment in a popular social media platform entails interaction with the business community.



Internationality

The language of the profile is English, and the profile and the posts are designed for an international audience.

Independent learning assignment based on independent study. See the instructions below.



Recognising and validating prior learning (RPL)

The student may present their existing Instagram profile and posts where applicable, with possible modifications.

Learning assignment


  1. Do some research on the Internet about how to create a useful Instagram profile and how to use Instagram effectively for professional purposes in your own career.

  2. Either update your existing Instagram profile or create a new one.

    • Take (with your own camera) and post a total of five (or more) professionally meaningful photos and/or videos from the viewpoint of your own career.

    • Use professionally relevant and catchy text to convey your message.

    • Use hashtags wisely.

    • Tell a story. Be creative.

    • Interact with others, commenting on their images/videos.

  1. Post your completed assignment into Moodle as follows:

    • Write a link to your Instagram profile.

    • Write a brief text to assess your own work using the three criteria in the assessment matrix below.

    • Mention your degree programme.
