  • Review the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. You may choose to read the entire document, view the illustrated version or listen to Eleanor Roosevelt read from the Declaration. All are available on the United Nations website: www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights

  1. In her poem “A Brave and Startling Truth,” Maya Angelou says that we are on a journey. What is the brave and startling truth that we must all recognize on this journey before peace is possible?

     



  1. What specific human rights issues are referred to in Angelou’s poem?

     



  1. After reading the articles outlined in the UN Declaration of Human Rights and Angelou’s poem, which two human rights issues are the most important to you? And in your opinion, which are most important for humanity’s future?
