Kompyuter tarmog`ini boshqarish davomida bir necha ko`rinishdagi protokollar to`plamidan foydalanish mumkin. Quyida ulardan bir nechtasi berib o`tilgan:
ARCNET, DECnet, Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, AppleTalk, Token Ring, IPX, SPX, FDDI, HIPPI, Myrinet, QsNet, ATM, IEEE-488, USB, IEEE 1394 (Firewire, iLink), X.25, Frame relay, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11, Systems Network Architecture, RapidIO

1. Darajalar:
a) OSI modeli;

c) Axborotni taqdim etish darajasi;
d) Seansli daraja;

2. Tarmoqlar orasida ma’lumotlar almashish turlari:
a) Simli (o`tkazgichli) aloqa: PSTN telefon tarmog`i, Modem va kommutatorli aloqa, Belgili liniyalar(Выделенные линии);
b) Paketlar kommutitatsiyasi (Коммутация пакетов): Frame relay, PDH, Ethernet, RS-232;
c) Oprik tola bo`yicha ma`lumot almashinish: Synchronous optical networking, Fiber distributed data interface;
d) Simsiz aloqa
i) Yaqin radiusli harakat: Bluetooth, Human Area Network;
ii) O`rta radiusli harakat: IEEE 802.11, Netsukuku
iii) Uzoq radiusli harakat: Sun`iy yo`ldoshli aloqa, MMDS, SMDS
e) Mobil telefon yordamida ma`lumotlar almashish: CSD, GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, CDMA, CDPD, Paging networks, DataTAC, Mobitex, Motient;
