Annamalai University

Annamalai University is a unitary residential University instituted in the year 1929 by the great philanthropist Dr.Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, the first Founder Pro-Chancellor. Subsequently, the University reached new heights of excellence under the guidance of second founder Pro-Chancellor, Dr.Rajah Sir M.A.Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad and the Present Pro-Chancellor Dr.M.A.M. Ramaswamy Chettiar. The University has nine faculties and forty-nine Departments. The University hosted the spectacular 94^th Indian Science Congress during January, 2007. Annamalainagar is already a busy and full-fledged University town, east of Chidambaram, the abode of Lord Nataraja. The University campus, including the college, hostels, and playgrounds, occupies an area of about thousand acres.

Host Department

The Department of Zoology, Annamalai University has been making outstanding strides in both teaching and research activities since 1939. The Department offers M.Sc., Zoology, M.Sc., Environmental Biotechnology, M.Sc., Microbiology and M.Sc., Integrated Zoology (5 Years) and M.Sc., Integrated Bio- Informatics (5 Years) and M.Sc., Integrated Microbiology(5 Years) programmes in addition to M.Phil., and Ph.D., Programmes in all the subjects. The Department of Zoology has received UGC-SAP grant recently.

About the Workshop

Biologically active molecules, both of synthetic and natural origin play a vital role in our life in one way or other. Bio-active molecules from resource are of botanicals source of Pharmaceuticals and neutraceuticals. In another lines of development, with the advent of biotechnology, the production of recombinant bio-active molecules has attracted a lot of interest. Such recombinant molecules have great botanical for commercialization as they are useful in diagnostic tools. Phytochemists/ synthetic organic chemists/ biologists/ biochemists and scientists/ researchers working in medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, agriculture, veterinary, marine and food science, etc. are deeply involved in both understanding as well as development of newer biologically active molecules, using new approaches such as genomic technologies and in- silico modeling. The research in this area has received immense interest among researchers and has shown encouraging progress.

Keeping the wide avenues, applications and the challenges involved in the development of biologically active molecules in mind, it is proposed to organize a national workshop on trends and techniques in isolation of bioactive molecules.

Submission of full papers

Original unpublished articles are invited and should be prepared strictly adhering to the instructions. The article should not exceed ten printed pages (A4 size) including tables, figure and references. The paper should be double spaced, typed in MS Word (97-2003) format and Times New Roman 12 font size. Two hard copies and one soft copy on C.D should be submitted. The paper should be computer spell checked and grammar corrected and should be arranged into the title, abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, acknowledgement and references. Figures should be in JPEG format. References are numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Citations should be labeled with square bracket and should appear in front of the period or comma at the end of the sentence/clause. All references should be cited. Unpublished data, personal communications, abstracts at meetings and manuscripts submitted for publication are not acceptable as references. Information from such sources may be cited in the text with the sources given in parentheses. References should be listed in a numerical order in the Reference section according to Vancouver Style. Accommodation & Hospitality

Accommodation will be arranged in advance on request in the University guest house/Hostels at nominal rates. Only local transport will be arranged from railway station, Bus terminals and University guest house/hostels to the workshop venue.

Eligibility

The total number of delegates will be restricted to 40. Academicians, Scientists, research scholars and students may apply. Registration in advance with fee to the workshop is mandatory. Spot registration on the day of workshop will not be entertained.
