Purpose of the register
Collection of data on injuries in order to produce information on the causation of injuries and the incidence of all injuries at national level. Collection of the data depends on the cooperation of the ED staff. As yet there is no legal basis for the collection of the data.

Scope of the register
The sampling methodology is not satisfactory at present. It leads to a biased sample that is not suitable for calculation of the national all injury Incidence Rate.

Sampling of hospitals
The selection of the two hospitals was based on the idea that there should be at least one large hospital in an urban area and one small hospital in a rural area. Given the small size of the country, it is assumed that these two hospitals provide an adequately representative sample with regard to estimating frequencies of most of the parameters of the IDB FDS. However, the sample is not suitable for estimation of national Incidence Rate. The sample size from Ammochostos General Hospital in 2011 was only 19 cases.
16
Sampling of cases within hospitals
The sampling methodology needs to be revised in order to improve the representativeness of the cases within hospitals.
17
Data entry method
A paper form is filled in by the clerk for each selected case by interviewing the patient and by reviewing the medical records. The data are then entered into the IDB data entry software.
