Giriş

Bu bölümde yeni konular ve yeni sözcükler öğreneceğiz. Öncelikle saatın kaç olduğunu öğrenmek istediğimizde soracağımzı soruyu öğrenip, sonra buna cevap olarak zamanı nasıl iafed edebileceğimizi göreceğiz. Sonrasında, İngilizce cins isimlerin Türkçe’den farklı biçimlerde nasıl çoğul yapıldığını kurallarıyla ve bu kurallara uymayan istisnalarıyla göreceğiz. Bu öğrendiğimiz isimlerin var/yok olmalarını nasıl ifade edeceğimizi de gördükten sonra, bir ev veya apartman dairesinde yer alan oda ve eşyaları öğrendikten sonra, yapacağımız alıştırmalarla bunların var/yok hallerinden söz edeceğiz.

09:00 It is nine o’clock. Saat dokuz.

09:10 It is ten past nine./ It is nine ten. Saat dokuzu on geçiyor./ Dokuz on.

09:15 It is a quarter past nine. Saat dokuzu çeyrek geçiyor.

09:25 It is twenty-five past nine. Saat dokuzu yirmibeş geçiyor.

09:30 It is half past nine. Saat dokuz buçuk.

09:40 It is twenty to ten./ It is nine forty. Saat ona yirmi var./Dokuz kırk.

Saat ona çeyrek var./Dokuz kırkbeş.

SINGULAR NOUNS (TEKİL İSİMLER)

b,c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z sesleri ile başlayan tekil isimlerin başına “a”,

a, e, i, o, u sesleri ile başlayan tekil isimlerin başına “an” konur.

PLURAL NOUNS (ÇOĞUL İSİMLER)

Birçok ismi çoğul yaparken –s eki kullanılır:

a day- three days

a key – two keys
Ancak, sonu –s, -ss, -sh ve -ch ile biten isimleri çoğul (plural) yapmak için -es eklenir:

a bus- buses

a dress- dresses

a brush- brushes

watch- watches

Sonu –f ve –fe ile biten isimleri çoğul yapmak için “f” yerine “v” getirilir ve sonra -es eklenir:

a leaf- leaves

a knife- knives

Sonu ünsüz harf+y ile biten isimleri çoğul yapmak için “y” yerine “ie” getirilir ve sonra -s eklenir:

a lady- ladies

a dictionary- dictionaries
Bazı isimlerin çoğul hali tamamen farklıdır:

Man- men

Woman- women

Child- children

Tooth- teeth

Foot- feet
Bazı isimlerin ise çoğul hali tekil hali ile aynıdır:

Sheep- sheep

2.3. “There is / There isn’t” / “There are / There aren’t” – (“Var” / “Yok”)

There is / There are... “var” anlamına gelir; “There is” tekil isimlerle, “There are” çoğul isimlerle kullanılır.
There isn’t a computer in the classroom.

There aren’t pictures in the classroom.
There is / There are ..

There isn’t / There aren’t... “yok” anlamına gelir; “There isn’t” tekil isimlerle, “There aren’t” çoğul isimlerle kullanılır.

There isn’t a teacher in the classroom.

There aren’t twenty students in the classroom.
There isn’t / There aren’t ..

Is there / Are there.. ? “Var mı?” anlamına gelir; “Is there...?” tekil isimlerle, “Are there...?” çoğul isimlerle kullanılır.

Var olan şeylerin sayısını sormak için “How many” (Kaç tane) ifadesi kullanılır. Cevap olarak var olan şeyin sayısına göre tekil ise “There is...”, çoğul ise “There are...” kullanılır.

2.4. House / Flat; Furniture- (Ev / Daire; Eşyalar)

There is a house.

There are two cars in the garage.

There are trees in the garden.

In the bedroom, there is a bed, a window and curtains. There are pictures and toys.

There are stairs in the house. There is a carpet on the stairs.

There is a bathroom in the house. There is a bathtub and a toilet in the bathroom. There is a Picture on the wall. There isn’t a chair.
