The Sixth Five Year Plan (1980-85) took initiative to link-up social and national priorities with various S&T initiatives. Under the Sixth Five Year Plan a Cabinet Committee on Science and Technology (CCST) was constituted on 3rd March 1981 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister to provide policy guidance in all matters relating to S&T.
