ISR develops and implements policy for Australia’s science and technology base as well as providing policy advice.
ISR aids in the advancement of Australia’s science and technology interests through a range of activities, including providing support to the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council and the Chief Scientist, as well as participating in various forums.
ISR administers and implements a number of programs that contribute to strengthening and enhancing science and innovation. ISR does this through the delivery of:
Innovation Programs that support research and development, such as the Innovation Access Program and Commercialising Emerging Technologies;
Programs that provide extensive support to scientific researchers through the administration of Cooperative Research Centres, major national research facilities and the Science and Technology Awareness Program; and
Venture Capital programs that aim to increase the supply of venture capital available to new high-technology companies.
ISR agencies (the Australian Geological Survey Organisation, Australian Government Analytical Laboratories, Australian Surveying and Land Information Group and the Ionospheric Prediction Service) directly carry out scientific and information access activities as part of their responsibilities.
