The purpose of the Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) is to inform Senators and Members of the proposed allocation of resources to outcomes and outputs by agencies within the portfolio, with particular emphasis on the proposed provisions in Appropriation Bills (1 and 2) 2001-02.
The PBS provide sufficient information, explanation and justification to enable Parliament to understand the purpose of each item in the Bills and the accrual budgets of the portfolio. An interpretation provision in the Appropriation Bills requires the PBS to be taken into account when interpreting the items in the Bills.
STRUCTURE OF THE PORTFOLIO BUDGET STATEMENTS
The PBS are presented in three parts with subsections.
