OUTCOME — CONTRIBUTION OF OUTPUT

AGSO’s geoscientific research and information contributes to enhanced economic, social and environmental benefits to the community by informing decisions which impact upon resource exploitation, management of the environment and the safety and wellbeing of Australians.

Beneath its corporate outcome and output, which are a broad description of what the organisation aims to achieve, AGSO has in place a hierarchy of more specific outcomes and outputs. This hierarchy provides a link between the corporate level and the many projects that AGSO undertakes each year and the specific products and services that it delivers.

At the intermediate level (level 2), AGSO’s planned outcomes are:

. Enhanced global attractiveness of Australia’s offshore and onshore exploration

. Improved resource management and environmental protection

. Safer communities and transportation AGSO’s intermediate level output groups are:

. Geoscience for urban centres

. Geoscience for oceans and coasts

. Geoscience for regional and rural areas
The third level in the hierarchy comprises the specific geoscientific projects that AGSO undertakes, each of which has its own project-specific outcome and a series of products and services such as research reports, maps, datasets, and geoscientific advice to government and other clients. As well as achieving its own project-specific outcome each project contributes to the achievement of one or more of the intermediate outcomes and in turn to the corporate outcome.

Justification for the output chosen to achieve the outcome is described in Table 2.2. The Table provides information on the strategies chosen to deliver the outcome, and shows the links between the output and the outcome.
