The effectiveness of ANSTO in delivering Government outcomes is illustrated in the 1999-2000 ANSTO Annual Report, that includes reports against performance indicators. These indicators supplement reports of the achievements of specific research projects, which represent the most direct outcomes of ANSTO’s scientific and technological activities in its core business areas.
COMPETITIVE TENDERING AND CONTRACTING
ANSTO is constantly exploring opportunities for improving performance and cost-effectiveness by means of appropriate competitive tendering and contracting. A range of functions is currently contracted in. These include:
protective security;
office cleaning;
lawn mowing and grounds maintenance;
canteen management;
internal audit;
cleaning services;
electrical and other trade support;
management of intellectual property;
transport;
training and development; and
quality coordination.
Any review of functions, particularly administrative functions, is considered in the context of both the cost of the delivered service and the strategic value of the store of corporate knowledge developed and maintained within the business.
