IDE 408 TRANSLATION OF ECO., POLITICS AND LAW TEXTS (3 0 3) 4 ECTS
In this course, the students learn how to translate general and daily topics, selected from various sources, economic, political and legal texts from English to Turkish, and from Turkish to English.

IDE 410 ENGLISH TRAVEL LITERATURE (3 0 3) 5 ECTS
This course mainly includes the definition, key terms and features of travel narrative as a literary genre, and offers a survey of English travel writing canon starting from Middle Ages till present as well as a comprehensive understanding of idea and meaning of travel literature from the context of theoretical and thematic terms like journey for discovery, cultural encounter and assimilation, cultural familiarization / defamiliarization, ideology, colonial and postcolonial discourses, theories of Colonialism, Postcolonialism and Orientalism and their diverse range of literary, thematic and theoretical reflections in both fictional and nonfictional travel narratives of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish authors and other writers.

The aim of the course is to make the students speak fluently with grammatical correctness and a reasonable speed. In order to improve their communication skills, guidance will be provided to the students to overcome the difficulties which are likely to occur during formal/informal conversations, public speeches, class presentations and discussions.

IDE 213 INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS I (3 0 3) 6 ECTS

This course is the first part of a general introduction to the nature of language, its complexity and diversity. This course mainly focuses on stimulating curiosity about basics of language and linguistics as a field of study.



The course deals with both the structural and the social aspects of the human language faculty. It introduces the student to the sub-fields of linguistics that deal with the aspects in question and to the basic concepts used in those sub-fields.

IDE 311 TRANSLATION III (3 0 3) 6 ECTS

The aim of this course is to teach students the translation methods and techniques and the structural / conceptual / linguistic / cultural similarities and differences between the Turkish-English / English-Turkish languages ​​in the main language-target language context through sample translation studies and translation exercises and to improve Turkish-English / English-Turkish translation and language skills.



IDE 312 AMERICAN POETRY (3 0 3) 6 ECTS

This course presents a general review of American poetry’s fundamental trends and the leading poets of these trends and the examples from the poetry that began to be produced in British colonial settlements in America in the 17th century to the 20th and 21st century contemporary American poetry examples.

IDE 411 LITERATURE AND MEDIA (3 0 3) 6 ECTS

Recognizing the versions of important literary texts adapted to the visual, auditory and written media and their effects on the perception of the readers / listeners, grasping the cultural contribution and the importance of cultural literary works adapted to the media.

IDE 414 SELECTIONS FROM CHILDREN LITERATURE (3 0 3) 6 ECTS

The main objective of this course, which includes interpreting the selected works from the Children's Literature, is to introduce the myths, rhymes, riddles, fairy tales and myths which are considered as the beginning of oral tradition and storytelling tradition in connection with the historical development of Children's Literature and texts selected from story types and books and visual works that reflect children's world and written for children up to the day in the context of changing aesthetic understanding, perspective, cultural and thematic approach.

Focused on developing and improving business communication and writing skills of students, who look forward to a good impression and career in business world, this course equips them with the basic and professional communication skills required for their future career planning and guides them in terms of necessary reading strategies while providing an opportunity to improve their writing performance for further business communication by useful, practical and work-related activities such as writing and compiling an effective CV / resumé, a cover letter, letter of application, preparing a report and a presentation, stressing the knowledge of career-related vocabulary.and tips for interview.

This course is designed to provide the students with academic research techniques and study skills necessary for both their undergraduate and graduate studies.

In this course, the students study selections from the works of Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, Donne, Milton, Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Bronte Sisters, Dickens, Conrad, Joyce, and Eliot order to understand the development of English Literature.
IDE 000 READINGS FROM WESTERN PHILOSOPHY (2 0 2) 3 ECTS
In this course, the students study the Greek and Roman Philosophies by examining selected works of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Francis Bacon, Machiavelli, John Locke, etc. that form the basis of Western Philosophy and Civilization.
IDE 000 MAGIC AND POPULAR BELIEF (2 0 2) 3 ECTS
In this course, the students study the popular belief and social life in Britain in the Middle Ages, The Medieval Church, Magic and Sorcery, Witchcraft, Health Practices, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Superstitions, Reactions against non-religious practices, Theatre under control of the Church, Corpus Christi and Mystery Plays, and The Mary Play.
