The Application of Magnetic and Ground Penetrating Radar (Gpr) Methods on Archaeological Sites
In this study, Magnetic and Ground penetrating radar (GPR) methods were applied to identify the geometric and physical properties of buried archaeological features under the ground in Aizanoi Ancient City and Heraion Teichos Acropole. Primarily, the magnetic and ground penetrating data were examined individually by the reference of archeological maps. Using two different geophysical methods, the anomalies which are related to possible walls, roads or foundations were identified. In order to have more clear infromations about these anomalies, integration techniques were applied on both synthetic data and field data. For the integration process, mathematical approaches as Sums and Products and statistical approach as Principal Component Analysis are applied. The results of all integration approaches provided more details about the anomalies related to archaeological features. Particularly, the application of Principal Component Analyse is thought to be an alternative technique for mathematical approaches. By using all those applications, it is clear to obtain a complementary images about the archaeological relics under the ground.
