m24912 (NON CE contribution) – Telecom Italia: global descriptors computed on the server side. Partial results on a Matlab implementation (8K - 16K) shown. The approach may work in conjunction with the retrieval system adopted by TM. Proposal to keep Core Experiment 6 open and present full results at the next meeting.
Conclusions:
Results were compared, also with results achieved in CE6. Improvements due to the global descriptor are clearly visible, also compatible with improvements brought by CE6.
M24781 brings better performance but with very high memory consumption. One possibility is to combine the technologies presented in m24781 and m24757.
Consensus is reached that m24757 will be integrated into the TM. The code should support the best performance within the 5MBs and 128KB memory limits.
The group feels that the tools presented in m24781 have strong potential to bring further improvements, provided that the memory limits can be reached. The group therefore invites proponents of m24781 to make their software available and integrate it with the output TM software available after this meeting. This will facilitate collaborative effort to include the best elements of m24781 into future versions of the TM.
