3D-HEVC-CE9 results on prediction structure by Samsung

Summary report (1 proposal submitted):

  • Samsung described a modified prediction structure to enable viewpoint switching, with view decoding refresh (which flushes the reference frame buffers of the same view), including proposal of a new NALU type.

The difference (or lack thereof) of the proposed VDR relative to the ViewIDR in MVC was discussed. It was asked whether there is a concept of anchor pictures in the 3D-HTM. For the CRA (clean random access) picture concept, it was asked why not to perform such switching at random access points. There was agreement on the need for view switching functionality.

A BOG on high-level syntax recommended further study of this topic in an AHG.
