18.4Advanced IPTV Terminal (AIT)
MPEG accelerated its time table for the standardization of AIT. Together with ITU-T Q13/16 Multimedia terminals, systems and applications, N11229 Joint Call for Proposals on Advanced IPTV Terminal was issued. Evaluation will take place on the weekend prior to the 92nd meeting.
Based on 21 input documents, updated requirements as well as context and objectives are reported in N11228 Requirements for Advanced IPTV Terminal (AIT) and N11230 Context and Objectives for Advanced IPTV Terminal (AIT), respectively. The main purpose of the upcoming standard is to define the exchange of information as well as command and control between the different services involved in AIT. Figure 4 shows that the combination of many services will be enabled. Therefore protocols will be at the core of the standard. It will build on the many standards already available within ITU and ISO. N11231 Use Cases for Advanced IPTV Terminal (AIT) describes applications and uses for the AIT standard. Figure 5 gives an example of an applications that AIT with its service aggregation capability will enable.
