Question ITU-R 34-1/6:
“File formats for the exchange of audio, video, data and metadata materials in the professional television and large screen digital imagery (LSDI) environments”
We would like to contribute the following text to a joint response from MPEG.
We note with interest question ITU-R 34-1/6, and would like you to consider ISO/IEC 14496-12 (technically identical to 15444-12), “The ISO Base Media File Format”, and its family members (such as ISO/IEC 14496-14 (MP4), ISO/IEC 15444-3 (MJ2), 3GPP TS 26.244, and so on) in your analysis. These formats are widely used in the industry for content preparation and distribution, with extensive support for a variety of usage modes, and powerful underpinnings for meta-data, and thus are particularly important to consider in relation to questions 2 and 3 in your liaison. With respect to meta-data storage, we also note an amendment we are working on for 14496-12 that provides support for both timed and un-timed URI-labeled meta-data, which enables storage of KLV meta-data as defined by SMPTE.
