Samsung expert presented m21196, which is a view of how the concept of TV will evolve in the near future. They imagine a Ultra-High Definition (UHD) display of larger than 100 inches, in which the conventional video “TV program” is only one element presented on the display. On key concept is that the media presentation is “immersive.” Other elements provide interactive information or communication services via other communication channels (e.g. IP).

The Requirements Chair noted that MPEG-H Systems might include touch screen or gesture control. The Audio Chair noted that if the Audio requirement is compression, then the AAC family serves that well at various audio quality levels. However, in an immersive environment, there may be not two or five, but more than 100 speakers for the audio presentation, in which case audio rendering would be a key component of MPEG-H.
The Audio Chair noted that MPEG-H should support both one large, immersive video display and audio presentation, and also multiple e.g. portable devices which each may present one information source or communications function.
