At the 95th meeting, MPEG decided to go forward with Type-1 standardization. The potential standard may consist of a Type-1 baseline video codec and additional functionalities that are Type-2 licensable like other MPEG technology. N12204 Call for Proposals (CfP) for Internet Video Coding Technologies and N12205 Requirements for Internet Video Coding Technologies were issued. Anchor sequences will be available shortly after this 97th meeting due to problems with the currently available bit streams. A separate adhoc group N12203 AHG on Internet Video Coding Technologies Anchors oversees this activity. Responses to the CfP are due in October 2011 and will be evaluated at the 98th meeting.
No progress was made with respect to the working guidelines for developing a Type-1 licensable codec.
The work continues in the adhoc group N12197 AHG on Internet Video Coding Technologies.
