The vision for MPEG-H is maturing (Figure 1). The functionality will be enabled by various components of MPEG-H Systems. While the media representation is one of the most important benefits compared to solutions available today, special care will be given to the design of interfaces. Advanced delivery (DASH, MMT), advanced user experience and interaction as well as content management will be addressed by MPEG-H (Figure 2). MPEG-H strives to become the preferred solution for content creators, content providers and consumers.
MPEG foresees the initial standards of MPEG-H to include video coding (HEVC), advanced audio coding and MPEG Media Transport. The Definition of Graphics and user interfaces will come later.
An initial project description and initial requiremens are defined in N12248 Draft MPEG-H project description and N12247 Draft MPEG-H Requirements, respectively. The vision for the definition of a set of MEPG-H standards needs to be refined. This work continues within the group N12196 AHG on MPEG-H Vision.
