IPICS ZAM:01 - Preparation, characterisation and property optimization of conducting polymer systems for chemical sensor applications
Objectives

The primary goal of this activity is to develop chemical sensor devices for the detection of organic pollutants and biomedical diagnostics application. The focus is the development of low cost sensors using functional materials based on conducting polymers. The work explores and exploits the inherent properties of conducting polymers. Furthermore, we explore utilization of nanoscience, combining unique properties of nanomaterials and those of conducting polymer systems. Our research seeks to establish structure-property relationships that enable preparation of materials with tailored properties. The resulting materials are evaluated for their sensing characteristics. The ultimate goal is to develop functional low-cost chemical sensor devices that can enable detection of pollutants more easily, at low cost and in shorter timeframes.

IPICS ZAM:02 – Natural products chemistry


Support started in 2014, and was concluded in 2016 because no new application was submitted.

Objectives

To assess the medicinal potential, isolate, characterize and identify the bioactive components of Zambian medicinal plants traditionally used as medicine for treatment of human diseases and to synthesise novel bioactive molecules to study their structure-activity relationships.

IPPS ZAM:01 – Growth and characterization of spectrally selective thin film coatings for solar energy applications and photovoltaic systems research


ISP has supported the group since 1988.
Objectives

The project is focused on the improvement of the photovoltaic conversion efficiency of solar Energy devices or systems from inorganic and organic solar energy materials and to grow and synthesize selective coatings fabricated from the available spin coater for solar energy applications. The goals will be achieved through the strengths of two laboratories in Chemistry and in Physics. The laboratories are fully equipped with growth of coatings and most of the synthesis could be done locally and we involve collaborating partners in specialized areas.
