For the exam, students will need to memorize all the rukus and mutashabihaat of those Juz. Students must also ensure that their agendas are completed; without this the exam will not be taken.
Parents are encouraged to cooperate with their child’s teacher in this matter.
The purpose of our reporting system is to track academic progress. Your child's success is our goal. Report Cards will be issued two times a year. Interviews timing will be Monday to Friday 8:00am to 8:30am or 2:45pm to 3:15pm.
Parent’s Information session
Parent’s information session will be held in the beginning of the year for parents to come and get information with regards to the Full-Time Hifz system and also ask any questions regarding the program.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
The purpose of the Parent-Teacher Interviews is to have a formal time for discussion between parents and teachers regarding the student's academic and progress. This type of conference aids the home and school in working together. Interviews also help detect areas that need reinforcement and extra attention in order to help the student grow to his/her full potential. Scheduled interviews will be held twice a year.
Report Card
The purpose of our reporting system is to track academic progress. Your child's success is our goal. Report Cards will be issued twice a year: after the Mid-Term Examinations and after the Final Examinations.
Subjects
Hifz (memorization of the Qur’an)
Tajweed (correct pronunciation of the letters and all other rules of beautifying the Quran)
Hadar (recitation of the Qur’an like Imam does in Salaah)
Tarteel (recitation of Qur’an in very slow tempo)
Masnoon Du’aa (daily du’aa in a person’s life)
Fiqh (basic rules of fiqh)
Seerah (Islamic history)
Tafseer/Hadith Halaqa (Students will be assigned a week in advance to prepare a 30minute speech which they will give before Jumma Prayer)
Student of the Month
A student will be selected from each class as student of the month. The certificates of the Students of the Month for the previous month will be posted on the notice board.
Anjuman
Anjuman is a weekly program where students are chosen to recite in front of their peers and teachers. Students will get an opportunity to showcase their skills, practice reading in front of large groups of people, and build self-confidence, thus preparing them for such opportunities which may arise in their futures. A roster is drafted and posted on the notice board so students may prepare for their turn in advance. They will also be verbally informed on the Friday they will be reciting. Anjuman will take place every Friday after Jummah Salaah for 45min. Students will prepare the assigned ruku with correct pronunciation and tone.
Jalsa
The Jalsa is an annual event end of the year on-stage presentation by the students to display what they have learnt throughout the year. Awards are also given out to the top students in each class. It is at this time that the students complete their Hifz-ul Qur’an and are presented with their Certificate of Completion. Parents are encouraged to attend the Jalsa and to support the students.
Parental Responsibilities
1. Please ensure your child arrives to class on time. They must be at the Masjid by 8:10 am.
2. Please pick up your child on time. The Islamic Foundation of Toronto will not be responsible for your child after 3:15 pm.
3. Your child must spend at least 2 hours in the evening and 1 hour in the morning before class to revise and practice their lesson. You are advised to set up a schedule to ensure your child is using their time wisely and sufficient time is allocated to their memorization.
4. We also have after school program for Hifz students to study and practice for the next day’s lessons and also for those students who need extra help. This program takes place from Monday to Friday 3:15pm to 6:00pm.
5. Please ensure that your child’s Agenda book is signed and returned to his teacher. Take the time to see what comments your child’s teacher has written and to stay informed of your child’s progress.
6. It is very important that your child gets adequate rest and has a healthy and nutritious diet. Cold drinks and ice negatively effect the voice and should be avoided.
7. We encourage you to keep in touch with your child’s teacher in order to know how your child is progressing. However, teachers cannot meet with parents during school hours. Please book an appointment to meet with your child’s teacher by leaving a message at 416-321-0909 ext 237 or by sending an email to arhafejee@islamicfoundation.ca.
8. We encourage you to give priority to your child’s Hifz-ul Qur’an over any other activities at home. Students should review their Sabaq and Sabaq para over the week-end.
9. After your child has completed 25 Juz, the students must pass the 5 test of 5 Juz and 1 test of 4 Juz in order for him/her to receive the Hifz Certificate.
10. The Full-Time Hifz School will not be responsible for any academic education. We advise parents to make alternative arrangements for their child to receive secular education, either by using a tutor or providing material for them to complete at home or online courses. This will ensure they don’t fall behind in their academic education.
Guidelines for Best Results
The following are guidelines to follow in order to help with the memorization of the Qur’an, Insha-Allah:
IKHLAAS
Muhammad ﷺ has said:
“Actions are but by intention and there is for every person only that which he intended…” (Bukhari and Muslim)
We must have the right intention. The only reason to memorize the Qur’an should be to gain the pleasure of Allah (S.W.T.)
DU’AA
Success lies with Allah (S.W.T.). Only Allah (S.W.T.) can make the Qur’an easy to remember. Beg Him for His help to not only memorize it but also to remember it and apply to daily life. Students should make dua at the time of Tahajjud, after every salaah, between Asr and Magraiib salaah and before starting to memorize. Ask others for du’aa and make du’aa for others who are doing hifz.
QUR’AN, YOUR COMPANION
More time will be spent with the Qur’an than with any other person or thing. The Qur’an should always be treated with love and respect
TIME
Time is very valuable, don’t waste it. Doing Hifz is dependant on how well you make use of time. Hifz should have first priority; everything should be planned around it. There should be balance between memorizing and reviewing, activity and rest especially on the weekends.
MEMORIZE ONCE, REMEMBER FOREVER
Memorization of new lesson should be as perfect as possible. If it is not strong, difficulty will be faced when revising it. For some, fixing mistakes is harder than learning a new lesson
VOLUME
Memorization is a combination of seeing and hearing. Read in a volume that is loud enough for yourself to hear and this will speed up the process of memorization.
NO NEED TO SPEED!
While it is tempting to read quickly, the Qur’an should be read in “…slow, measured rythmic tones.” (Surat-ul Muzzammil, verse 4). One should be able to understand and follow what is being read. Recitation should be with tarteel to make it stronger.
MINDSET
If the mindset is that memorizing the Qur’an is hard or that the juz / surah / page is difficult, it will be hard. The mindset should be “Allah has made it easy and will make it easier to memorize, insha-Allah”.
READ, READ, READ
Memorization of the new lesson should begin with reading the lesson until one is comfortable with the page. This can be 8 times, 11 times, or 20 times…it all depends on the person memorizing. This will, insha-Allah, speed up the memorization process and reduce the chances of making mistakes
CASSETTES / CDs/APPS
Those who are auditory learners will benefit from listening to a reciter in order to memorize. This will help to become familiar with the lesson and reduce the possibility of making mistakes when memorizing
DIET
It is advised to eat raisins, almonds, olives, and honey to strengthen the ability to memorize. Sweets are also good as they give energy. Drink lots of milk, water and juice; NO POP! Find a balance in the amount of food consumed. Too much food will make one sleepy. Too little food means not enough energy to memorize. Doing / eating haram is stated to cause forgetfulness
RESPECT OF USTAAD
How well one does in Hifz depends on how well you listen to your teacher. One should be thankful to Allah for their teacher and should try to benefit from their experience. Their advice will always be for benefit, insha-Allah.
CONCENTRATION AND ENVIRONMENT
Both are linked to each other. The environment should be without distractions or noise and should allow for concentration. Distractions such as TV, movies, the Internet, and video games must be avoided.
SHAITAAN, THE ENEMY
Shaitaan is constantly looking for ways to attack, especially those doing Hifz. We should seek refuge in Allah from Shaitaan. When one is being distracted, remember that these are mostly “waswasay” (whisperings) from Shaitaan. Especially in the beginning stages and when coming close to completing.
PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE“…O ye who believe! Seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for God is with those who patiently persevere…” (Surat-ul Baqarah, verse 153). It is important to not give up; continue to work hard and insha-Allah you will succeed.
