[57] A printer (600) that comprises a support frame (606); a media tray (607) mounted on the support frame for storing media; a media supply mechanism that is operatively positioned with respect to the media tray to feed media from the media tray in a feed direction; a printhead assembly (602, 603) mounted on the support frame, downstream of the media tray to receive and print on the media; and a binding assembly (605) mounted on the support frame, the binding assembly comprising a glue application zone (673) positioned downstream of the printhead assembly; a stopping mechanism (706) that is configured to stop consecutive sheets (604) of media in the glue application zone for a predetermined period of time; and an elongate glue applicator that is positioned substantially at right angles to said feed direction, the applicator being displaceable towards and away from the sheets of media to apply a strip of glue to a transverse edge of each of said consecutive sheets of media during said predetermined period of time.

[57] A compact printer system including: a printer module (10) having: a printhead operable to print data onto media, at least one first connector (14); and at least one second connector (15); at least one further module having at least one first connector and at least one second connector; at least one of the at least one further module connected to the printer module via the first connector of the printer module engaging the second connector of the respective further module, wherein the first connector of the printer module cannot engage with the first connector of the at least one further module and the second connector of the printer modules cannot engage with the second connector of the at least one further module, and wherein said first and second connectors of the printer module and the at least one further module each include a physical connector and a logical connector, said logical connector providing both a power connection and a data connection, said physical connector including a spring loaded catch on one said first or second connector and a recess on another of said second or first connector respectively.
