The child and their caregiver, develop a regulatory system together, through the continuous responding to a child’s signals e.g when a child is hungry and cries a caregiver would respond by feeding it.
Through this process, the child learns to recognise itself and others as persons, with thoughts and feelings, and this is the basis for empathy.
