4.4.2 What are the institutional mechanisms for maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure, facilities and equipment of the college? Maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure and facilities in the College is being carried out by the PWD Building Division, Jowai of the Government. For equipments, the College do minor repairs only and for major repairs, proposals has to be sent to the Government.
NIL 4.4.4 What are the major steps taken for location, upkeep and maintenance of sensitive equipment (voltage fluctuations, constant supply of water etc.)? NIL CRITERION V: STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION 5.1 Student Mentoring and Support 5.1.1 Does the institution publish its updated prospectus / Handbook annually? if Yes, what is the information provided to students through this documents and how the institution ensure its commitment and accountability ? The institution publishes its updated prospectus / handbook every year. It provides information about admission procedure for different programmes offered by the institution. It contains detail fees structure for degree classes, facilities available in the college such as Library, Hostel, Sports and Games, NSS, other extracurricular activities and also other information relating to attendance, examinations, conduct and discipline. 5.1.2 Specify the type, number and amount of institutional scholarships/ freeships to the students during the last four years and whether the financial aid was available and disbursed on time ? 5.1.3 What percentage of students received financial assistance from State Government, Central Government and other national agencies? 80% (approx) of the students received financial assistance from State Government. 5.1.4 What are the specific support services/facilities available for Students from SC/ST, OBC and economically weaker sections?
The institution does not have any medical care or health centre but it organized various programmes related to health care such as programmes on aids awareness, blood donation etc. On 21st Nov, 2013 an awareness programme on Dengue Fever was conducted by the District Medical Health Officer, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in the college auditorium. On 26th Jun, 2015 the college also observed the International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Students were given an opportunity to expose outside the campus. In the year 2014 the Government had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 15.00 lakhs only for the purpose of exposure trip meant for 15 departments of the college. Students were taken for exposure trip to different location outside the state as per the arrangement made by the concerned departments. Detailed of exposure trips during the year 2015 is given below:-
Besides exposure trip the college also selected a limited number of students for annual excursion. During the year 2015 students were taken for excursion to Mumbai and Goa.
The institution published its college magazine annually. The editorial includes staff editor and student editor. This annual publication provides opportunity to the student and the teachers to express their creativity and ideas. 5.1.5 Describe the efforts made by the institution to facilitate entrepreneurial, among the students and the impact of the efforts. Effort was yet to be made by the institution to facilitate entrepreneurial skill 5.1.6 Enumerate the policies and strategies of the institution which promote participation of students in extracurricular and co-curricular activities such as sports, games, quiz competitions, debate and discussions, cultural activities etc. The institutions encourage the students to participate in extra- curricular activities and co - curricular activities with the cooperation of the teaching staff, the students union and the student community. The college week is held every year to conduct the events such as outdoor and indoor games, drama, music, comedy competitions, Art and Cultural, Debate and symposium. Besides, organizing annual college week the students are also encouraged to take part in any competition organized at the District and State levels. Special dietary requirements, sport uniform and material were provided to the participants. 5.1.7 Enumerating on the support and guidance provided to the students in preparing for the competitive exams, give details on the number of students appeared and qualified in various competitive exams such as UGC-CSIR NET, UGC-NET, SLET, GATE/ CAAT,GRE/ TOFEL/ GMAT/ Central/ StateServices, Defense, Civil Services etc. The college does not have any support of guidance to the students in preparing for the Competitive Exams such as UGC- NET, Central or State services ,defense , Civil services, etc. 5.1.8 What type of counseling services are made available to the students (academic, personal, career, psycho-social etc.) From time to time the career counseling committee provides career guidance to all the students. Experts in career guidance were also invited from outside/other institutions. The college conducted a career guidance to the student on the 21st November 2014. Resource persons from outside the college were invited for the programme in addition to resource persons from the college. A power point presentation on courses on career options for student of the college was given by the University of Technology and Management, Shillong on 28th August 2013 in the college auditorium. 5.1.9 Does the institution have a structured mechanism for career guidance and placement of its students? If ‘yes’, detail on the services provided to help students identify job opportunities and prepare themselves for interview and the percentage of students selected during campus interviews by different employers (list the employers and the programmes). The institution do provide career guidance to the students but it does not have any placement cell . 5.1.10 Does the institution have a student grievance redressal cell? If yes, list (if any) the grievances reported and redressed during the last four years. The institution does have a student grievance redressed cell, till date there was no list of grievances reported and redressed. 5.1.11 What are the institutional provisions for resolving issues pertaining to sexual harassment? `There have been no reports of any sexual harassment. 5.1.12 Is there an anti-ragging committee? How many instances (if any) have been reported during the lastfour years and what action has been taken on these? The institution has an anti – ragging committee. Till date there are no reports of any ragging in the institution. 5.1.13 Enumerate the welfare schemes made available to students by the institution. No welfare schemes were made available to students by the institution other than scholarship. 5.1.14 Does the institution have a registered Alumni Association? If ‘yes’ what are its activities and major contributions for institutional, academic and infrastructure development? It was on 4th Dec 2010 that the college at the initiative of the principal Smt W.M.Shullai and Shri O.R. Shallam, Head Department of History, convened the first General Body meeting of the past-students of the college. The office bearers were elected, they are as follows: President : Shri O.R. Secretary : Dr D.I.Kjam Treasurer : Shri F.Laloo Editor cum organizing secy : Smt R. Shylla Auditors : Smt K. Rymbai and D. Rymbai The association has been registered under the Registration Act XII of 1983 vide No. SR/JH/KNG CAA-1095/64 of 2011. As a registered association of an elite group the Association has organized a seminar on “Child labour” as to make people aware of the problem of child labour that the district of Jaintia Hills is facing. It was on 4th June 2013 the Association also organized a National Seminar on “Water-A source of life”. It was held at the college Auditorium Jowai. The Association also highlighted some of the problems associated with the college namely the college play ground and steps which shall be taken by the executive committee to find ways and means in order that maintenance and upliftment of the same may be appropriately done. 5.2 Student Progression 5.2.1 Providing the percentage of students progressing to higher education or employment (for the last four batches) highlight the trends observed. The institution does not gather information to know the progress of its students about their higher education once they pass out. 5.2.2 Provide details of the programme wise pass percentage and completion rate for the last four years (cohort wise/batch wise as stipulated by the university)? Furnish programme-wise details in comparison with that of the previous performance if the same institution and that of the Colleges of the affiliating university within the city/district.
