35. SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans

STRENGTH-

  • The Department has maximum number of experienced

Teaching Staff,

  • Adequate number of Scientific Instruments for conducting

Experiments ,

  • Adequate number of Classrooms.

WEAKNESS-

  • No internet facility,

  • Number of Personal Computers present is not sufficient,

  • Laboratories are too small,

  • Insufficient number of Text Books and absence of Journals, magazines in the Departmental Library,

  • Students admitted to the Course are average students with less than 75% marks in Physics in the Higher Secondary level

OPPORTUNITY- The Department has the opportunity to

  • conduct Career oriented courses relevant to Physics ,

  • Develop student to have creative scientific thinking,

  • Incorporate extra curriculum which will help the student in higher

Learning e.g. Special Computer courses (e.g.Latex), Statistical

interpretations etc.

  • conduct special classes for slow learners and weak students.

  • Exposure trips and Student exchange programmes which will help the students to enhance competitiveness and knowledge.

CHALLENGES-

  • Feeder Institutions do not cater much to the basic understanding & knowledge of Physics subject to the student. The faculty has to spent some of their teaching time in creating basic understanding of the subject

  • There is less competition amongst the students and hence students

are not serious in their studies.
FUTURE PLANS:

The Department is very keen in future to

  1. Hold National/State/District level Seminar, since it is the only DegreeCollege which provides higher learning in Physics in the the Districts of West Jaintia Hills and the newly created East Jaintia Hills District,

  1. Hold an Exhibition of Physics instruments and experiments to the

Higher Secondary level Students of both the Jaintia Districts ,to create

awareness about the Subject and field of Physics,

  1. Hold Crash Courses in Basic Physics at the initial phase of commencement of the Degree Course in the College.
