Livingston – Funeral services for Neil D. Cardwell, 71, of Onalaska were held Friday,
May 22, 1992, from the First United Methodist Church of Onalaska, with the Rev. Bill Raines officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. Cardwell died May 19 in Polk County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 16, 1920 in Baker, Ore. Mr. Cardwell retired in 1977 from the U. S. Postal Service in Bryan, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Onalaska and AARP, and was vice president of the Yaupon Cove Property Owners’ Association. Mr. Cardwell served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Nina Cardwell of Onalaska; son, Larry Cardwell of Livingston; daughters, Sherry Piper and husband Larry of Bryan and Terry Conaway and husband Robert of Bryan; and sister-in-law, Sybil Rogers of Bryan. Pallbearers were J. E. Worbington, Osca Chancey, John Rauber, Bill Campbell, Dale Snell, Frank Jamierson, Nathan Piper and Robbie Conaway. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Yaupon Cove Property Owners’ Association Board of Directors and president. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LIVINGSTON – Nina Merle Cardwell, 82, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at St. Joseph
Hospital in College Station, Texas. She is survived by Sherry and Larry Piper, daughter
and son-in-law, of College Station; daughter, Teri Conaway of Bryan, Texas; sister, Sybil Rogers of College Station, grand-children, Robbie Conaway, Jerry Conaway, Kimberly Conaway, Nathan and Jean Piper, Lauren and Stanley Stephenson; great-grandchildren, Brooke Conaway, Tyler Conaway and Amber Hisaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Gladys Smith Byars; husband Neil Cardwell and her son, Larry Cardwell. Nina Retired fron banking in Livingston, but remains very active in her church, the local AARP and caring for her friends and neighbors. She moved from Onalaska in August 2007 to live with her daughter in College Station. She missed all her friends in Onalaska very much. Our Nana went home to be with her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Pallbearers were Stanley Stephenson, Larry B. Piper, Bob Burley, Nathan Piper and Alan
Piper. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Hill, Troy Abshire, Robbie Conaway and Jerry Conaway. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home in Onalaska, Texas, with the Rev. Dale Nell officiating.
Interment was in the Bold Springs Cemetery in Livingston. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Caring Committee at the First United Methodist Church in Onalaska.
Cochran Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for James C. Carruthers, 79, of Livingston were held at the Pace Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Donald White officiating. Burial was in the Bold Springs Cemetery. Carruthers was born to the late Alex and Mary Welch Carruthers in Minneapolis, Minn., on February 14, 1895. He died Sept. 10 at the Livingston Memorial Hospital. He attended the public schools in Minneapolis and attended the University of Illinois where he received a degree in mechanical engineering.
For many years, he was employed with the railroad commission in the Midwest area as an inspector. He later moved to Texas where he was associated with the Interstate Commerce Commission. He retired in 1942 from the ICC. He was actively engaged in the dairy business when he moved to Polk County in 1942 and until 1957. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rachel Whisenant Carruthers of Livingston, one sister and one brother. Pallbearers were Willard Hilton, Dan Dominey, Norman McLeod, Revis Hioll, George Edward Richardson, Burt Whisenhant, Haywood Smith and Willie Douglas Whisenhant.

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Rachel Carruthers, 99, of Livingston were held Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Orval
Barger, Bro. Donald White and Bro. Lee Poe officiating. Interment followed in Bold
Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Carruthers died Saturday, Jan. 16, in Memorial Medical Center,
Livingston. She was born July 12, 1899 in West Tempe, the daughter of Thomas Edward Whisenhunt and Martha Adline Pruitt Whisenhunt. Mrs. Carruthers was reared and went to school in West Tempe. She graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville and was a teacher for a while. She and her brother, John Whisenhunt owned a store and ran the post office at Blanchard. In 1955 she married James C. Carruthers. Mrs. Carruthers was a member at the First Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She moved to Livingston in 1984. Mrs. Carruthers was preceded in death by her husband and her brother. Survivors include her cousins, Imogene Hilton and husband Howard of Livingston, Corrie Thomas of Dayton, Lorraine Blackstock of Livingston, Williard Hilton and wife Bonnie of Lufkin and Bubba Whisenhunt of Livingston; numerous cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Gene Whisenhunt, Steve Townley, Danny Dominey, Tracy Hilton, Jack Townley, Edwin Carter, Foster McDonald and Bruce Ott.
