Obituary published in the Polk County Enterprise - September 11, 1983 Edition

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Rufus Fount McClain, 67, of Livingston were held

Sept. 7, 1983 from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Andy Dooley officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. McClain died Sept. 5 in the VA Hospital in Houston. He was born Nov. 3, 1915, the son of the late Seth and Winnie McClain. He was reared in the Livingston area and graduated from Livingston High School where he was outstanding in football, basketball, baseball and track. He attended Rice University on a football scholarship. He married the former Dorothy Sparks on Dec. 28, 1938 in Houston. He was a member of the Livingston Athletic Booster Club. An avid sportsman, he helped found the Lake Livingston Bass Club and was one of the first Lake Livingston guides.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McClain of Livingston; son, David McClain of Livingston; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Linda McClain of Livingston; sister, Jane Daniel of Houston; four granddaughters, Donna Tomlinson of Livingston, Rebecca McClain of Packs Rivers, Md., Melissa McClain of Livingston and Amy McClain of Livingston; two grandsons; David McClain of Packs Rivers, Md. And Patrick McClain of Livingston

and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Don McClain, Mike McClain, Bill McClain, John Garner, Richard Smith and Marvin McAlpin. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

31 Aug 1911 – (Bold Springs) – The Death Angel visited the home of Mr. and

Mrs. Jim Dominy and took from them Mrs. Dominy’s brother, John McCrorey.

He was 17 years and 10 months old. He leaves a father, two sisters and two

brothers to mourn his death… He has been with his sister ever since the death

of his mother, which has been 15 years ago.

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Eva McDonald, 91, of Livingston were held Thursday, March 30, 1989 from the chapel of Pace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Johnnie Buller of Bethel Baptist Church in Bold Springs and the Rev. Frank Hood of Chesswood Baptist Church in Livingston officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mrs. McDonald died March 27 in Livingston Convalescent Center. She was born June 3, 1897 in Bold Springs, TX to Robert H. Rogers and James Emma Marsh Rogers. Mrs. McDonald was reared in the Bold Springs community and attended the then-available public schools in the area. In 1918 she was married to Dorsey Owen McDonald in Livingston by the Rev. W. B. Wadsworth. Dorsey Owen McDonald preceded her in death in 1944. Mrs. McDonald was a devoted and active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bold Springs until her health failed her. Survivors include a brother, R. H. “Tub” Rogers of Livingston; niece, Mrs. Bobbye

Wade of Conroe; nephew, Bill Baker of Livingston; and several other nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Pallbearers were Robert Lewis Baker, Kenneth Larry Baker, William Henry Mills, Roger Bruce Wade, Harold Issacs and Joe Pridgen.

Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Granvel McGaughey, 63, of Trinity were held Monday, Feb. 29, 1988 from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Buller officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. McGaughey died Friday, Feb. 26, in Trinity. He was born July 31, 1924 in Carmona, TX., the son of Hugh McGaughey and Rosa King McGaughey. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was a member of the VFW in Livingston.Survivors include his wife, Billie McGaughey of Trinity; a daughter, Jana Collins of Livingston; brother, Alton McGaughey of Pasadena; stepdaughter, Billie Sue Miller of Houston and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Tommy Wilder, Jimmy Southern, Homer Curry, Guinn Jones, Bruce Curry and James Burnett.

Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LIVINGSTON — Elma Jean “Patsy” McGaughey, 78, of Livingston died on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, in Lufkin. A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in Bold Springs Cemetery, near Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dickie Boddie officiating. She was born June 24, 1930 in Polk County, to parents George Dalton and Treva Buller Southern. She worked at Atchley’s Variety Store on the downtown square for many years. Most recently she managed a small mobile home park on Snell Drive in Livingston. She is preceded in death by husband, Granvel McGaughey; her parents; sisters, Maureen Ewing, Wayne Wilder and Mable Southern and brother, Thyrman Southern. She is survived by her daughter, Janna Robrecht; grandson, Dalton Collins and wife Shannon and great-grandson, D. J. Collins. Patsy is also survived by a number of special nieces, nephews and friends. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
