Obituary published in the Polk County Enterprise – June 4, 2000 Edition

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Lester Nelson, 74, were held Friday, June 2, 2000, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Hood and Dr. Don Willis officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery in Livingston. Mr. Nelson died Wednesday, May 31, in Memorial Medical Center, Livingston. He was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Cushing, the son of Arthur and Mytie Channel Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a lifelong resident of Polk County and was owner of Nelson Cement. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister,

Ester Nelson; sister, Verna Duff; and brothers, Ben Nelson, Gaston Nelson, Otho Lee Nelson, Edgar Nelson and Clarence Nelson. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bubba Watson of Livingston; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Debra Nelson of Livingston, and Ricky and Marcey Nelson of Livingston; wife of 33 years and lifelong

friend, Mayzelle Nelson of Livingston; granddaughters, Becky Watson of Kingwood, Tina Watson Gay and husband Lain of Kingwood, Rachel Nelson of Livingston and Stevi Nelson of Livingston; grandsons, Brandon Nelson of Livingston, Montana Nelson of Livingston and Wade Nelson of Livingston; sisters, Irene Patterson of Livingston, Lucille Perez of Humble and Lilly Esponosa of Baytown; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers were Phil Woffard, friend; Frankie Gennuso, friend; Sheriff Billy Ray Nelson, nephew; James Nelson, nephew; William B. Patterson, nephew; Petey Thomas, friend; Roy Burch, friend; and Craig Wright, friend. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Guidry, Jimmy Clifton, Almarine Plattenburg and Carlos Estrabano.

LIVINGSTON – Graveside services for Sybol Martin Nelson, 75, of Livingston were held Thursday, April 20, 1995, from Bold Springs Cemetery, with Bro. Lee Poe Officiating.

Mrs. Nelson died Tuesday, April 18, in Kingwood. She was born Aug. 8, 1919 in Shelby County, the daughter of Jed Martin and Lilly Pipes Martin. She attended school in Shelby and Angelina counties. On April 11, 1944 she married Roy Nelson in Houston. They would be companions for the next 51 years. After their marriage they lived in Houston until 1975, when they moved to Livingston. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of VFW Post 8568 in Livingston. She enjoyed gardening and was known as a great lover of animals, a wonderful and caring wife, and was a joy to be around. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Roy Nelson of Livingston; sisters-in-law, Dorine Carter of Houston, Lurlene Wilson and husband Richard of Baytown, Iona Gardner of Tyler and Ethyl Mae Nelson of Alabama; brothers-in-law, R. D. Nelson and wife Selma of Fredericksburg and W. W. Nelson and wife Merle of Livingston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Frank B. O’Neill, 63, of Livingston were held Thursday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. in Pace Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C. L. Moore officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Donald White. Burial was in Bold Springs Cemetery and pallbearers were R. H. Roper, Roland Wilder, Doc Wright, Roscoe Wainwright, Lewis Burnette and Ira Lee West.

O’Neill was a native of Trinity County, but moved at an early age with his family to Groveton and Lufkin where he received is education. He was engaged in the grocery business in Livingston for 18 years, then purchased the Choates Creek Lumber Co., and was operating it at the time of his death. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laverne Holleman O’Neill of Livingston; one son, Frank O’Neill Jr. of Livingston; one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Harris of Houston; three brothers, Jack O’Neill of Leggett, Arnold O’Neill of Houston and Joe Maxie O’Neill of Cleveland; two sisters, Miss Alice O’Neill of Houston and Mrs. Mable Brame of Livingston; and three grandchildren.
