Jake William Blackerby


Obituary from the Polk County Enterprise June 15, 2000 Edition

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Jake William Blackerby, 75, of Livingston will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2000, from Bethel Baptist Church in Bold Springs, with the Rev. Frank E. Hood officiating. Interment will follow in Bold Springs Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post 8568. Mr. Blackerby died Monday June 12, in Humble. He was born May 31, 1925 in Polk County, the son of Clyde and Dessi Glass Blackerby. He married the former Pearlee Lawrence on June 5, 1953 in Leggett. Jake and Pearlee Blackerby lived and reared two daughters and two sons in Livingston. Jake worked at Lawrence Saw Shop, wearing bib overalls, for 30 – plus years. He was known by many in the Piney Woods area for his kind and gentle nature and his readiness to make a needed repair. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Johnnie Lynn Blackerby. Survivors include his wife, Pearlee Blackerby of Livingston; sons, Doug Blackerby and wife Lisa of Livingston, and J. W. Blackerby and wife Sandy of Livingston; daughters, Jane White and husband Bill of Livingston, and Jennifer Greene of College Station; sisters, Ruth Goertz of Livingston, Cynthia Krieger and husband Warren of Livingston, and Doris Walton and husband Gene of San Augustine; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Doug Blackerby, J. W. Blackerby, Donnie Hilton, Charles Hodge, Larry Lawrence and Bill White. Honorary pallbearers will be Soap Garrett, Ted Keeling, Bubba Lapaglia, Eddie Monroe, Spencer Monroe, Bobby Ryans and Wolfgang Petroschka.

Pace Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dora Bond

Obituary published August 2005 in the Polk County Enterprise

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for Dora Anne “Nannie” McIntyre Bond, 92, were held Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Frazier, Bro. John Sirman and the Rev. Rusty Watkins officiating. Burial followed in Bold Springs Cemetery in Livingston. Mrs. Bond died Sunday, Aug. 14, in San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown. She was born Sept. 7, 1912 to A. J. “Buck” McIntyre and Roxie Della Myers near Shepherd in San Jacinto County. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1931. After graduation, she attended Sam Houston University and received her BS degree in Library Science. Later she returned to Sam Houston University and earned her Master of Arts degree in elementary education. She married William Thomas Bond on Nov. 8, 1936 in Lufkin. They had one daughter, Tommy Nan Bond Marsh. Mrs. Bond taught in the elementary grades at Garvey, Bold Springs, Onalaska and Leggett schools and was librarian at Livingston Junior High School for 12 years. After retirement, she became assistant library advisor for Region VI in the Leggett Independent School District. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association while teaching and was a charter member of the Delta Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Livingston Memorial Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and past worthy matron. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees.

She was a substitute teacher of the Christian Workers Class for several years. She also did volunteer work in the schools and nursing homes. In 1966, through the efforts of Mrs. Bond and her students, the Leggett Independent School District was selected to receive the George Washington Honor Medal Award for the school’s outstanding accomplishment in helping to achieve a better under-standing of the American way of life. In 1999 Mrs. Bond received the Outstanding Graduate award of Livingston High School 1931 as teacher/librarian for 35 years in the field of education and for her community volunteer services. Her devotion to her church and her family and her dedication to education and her community will be her lasting legacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bond; her father, A. J. McIntyre; her mother, Roxie Myers McIntyre; brothers, Thomas McIntyre, Sherman McIntyre, Buck McIntyre and Ernest McIntyre and sisters, Gersie McIntyre-Walding and Doris McIntyre. Pallbearers were Kenneth Bond, Harlan Camp, Garvey Jackson, Billy Jack Jones, Corry Thomas Jones, Thomas McIntyre, John Sirman Sr., Joe Howard Thomas and Andrew Sirman. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Emma Troy Bond

Livingston - Funeral Services for Emma Troy Bond, 90, of Livingston were held Friday,

Dec. 13, 1996, from the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Orville Barger and Bro. Lee Poe

officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Bond was born May 26,

1906 in Bold Springs, the daughter of Albert Thomas and Fannie Marsh Watts, and died

Dec. 11, in Memorial Medical Center, Livingston. She attended Bold Springs School and

later went to Livingston High School and graduated in 1924 with honors. She attended

Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College and then taught school in Elwood and Leggett. Mrs. Bond later owned a fabric shop, which she operated until she retired. She loved to garden and loved her family. A member of First Baptist church, she was a Bible scholar and longtime Sunday school teacher. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Betty Bond of Carlisle, Pa., James and Patsy Bond of Livingston, and Kenneth and Robbye Bond of Livingston, daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Harland Camp of Livingston; brother and sister-in-law, Nolan "Cotton" and Willie Watts of Bold Springs, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Gene Keith Bond, Kenny Bond, Neal Nettles, Jimmy D. Bond and Joe Morasch.

Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
