Edmond Forest Bender 87 of Livingston passed away Wednesday June 25, 2008 in Houston. Funeral services will be held Friday June 27, 2008 at 4:00PM in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Hood officiating. Visitation will be Thursday June 26, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM also in the Cochran Funeral Home. Military Honors will be given by VFW Post #8568. He was born May 6, 1921 in Eagle Lake, Texas to parents Lawrence Lewis Bender and Emily Beckman Bender. Edmond proudly served our country in WWII from 1942 until 1945. He was a life time member of the VFW Post #8568, and was a member of the Trinity Masonic Lodge #14 AF/AM. Edmond is survived by his wife Virginia Bender of Livingston, daughters Florence Parker and husband Karl of Lake Jackson, Beverly Gregory and husband Larry of Deer Park, Lenelle Deaville and husband Isaac of Livingston, Ann Munn and husband Bill of Spring, son Norman French Jr. of Livingston, and sister Helen Stewart of Chappell Hill. Longtime Livingston businessman Alton McKay Bevell, owner of Bevell Wholesale Tackle Co. was buried in the Bold Springs Cemetery Wednesday following services at First Baptist Church in Livingston. He was 46. Mr. Bevell died suddenly Sunday evening while conducting church services in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) in Woodville which he served as president. He was born on Aug. 6, 1927 near Batesville, Miss. the son of James Blaine and Annie Belle Wilson Bevell. While in high school he excelled in basketball and baseball and upon graduation from Batesville High School in 1947 he was granted an athletic scholarship. However, because of a heart condition which developed in his youth, his doctor advised against further athletic activity. Mr. Bevell came to Livingston in 1951 where he married Patricia Ann Martin on June 17 1952. Mr. Bevell became the owner of a service station in downtown Livingston in 1958, but leaving the service station business he developed business activities in the rapidly growing fishing and recreational area around Livingston which culminated in creation of Bevell Wholesale Tackle Co. Mr. Bevell was instrumental in creating successful fishing spinners and lures which have received wide publicity in the area. The Big B, Bevell's Edge, the Po-Boy, H & H and the Tenna-spin are some of the lures which he helped develop and are now famous.  In October 1973, Mr. Bevell had open heart surgery. He had recovered to a point where he was allowed to spend several hours each day in his usual activities.  He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Katherine Kay and Tenna Ann Bevell of Livingston, his mother of Batesville, Miss. four sisters, Bessie

Purser, Lucile Stroupe and Margaret Wood, all of Batesville and Hazel Barnes of Roy, Utah; and two brothers, Baster Bevell of Southaven, Miss. and Calvin Bevell of Monrovia, Calif. Pallbearers were James E. Purser, Ralph Purser, Billy Strange, Noah Crosby, Charlie Ratcliff and Lee Odom.
