Aims of the study

The study set out to achieve the following aims:

1. 
   To render a theoretical exposition of the nature and extent of juvenile delinquency;
   
2. 
   Offer appropriate theoretical explanations for the existence of this kind of social phenomenon;
   
3. 
   To provide a theoretical exposition of juvenile diversion as an alternative to the retributive processes of the formal juvenile justice system;
   
4. 
   To focus attention particularly on the work done by NICRO, and
   
5. 
   To facilitate descriptive analysis regarding juvenile offenders diverted to NICRO in Durban.
