Exclamation mark !
Many writers do not like to use exclamation marks. They are used in informal writing and when writing down something that has been said with a lot of emotion. An exclamation mark may be used:

  at the end of a sentence expressing strong feelings, and with exclamations and interjections
  

“This song’s great!”

But that’s a terrible thing to happen!

She’s a professor, and she’s only 18!

“Damn!”

“Hi!”

  to show that a speaker is shouting, or that a noise is loud
  

“Dave, where are you? Dave!”

Bang! She slammed the door.

• 
  at the end of a forceful order
  

“Don’t open that parcel, it might be a bomb!”

(but “Open your book at page 102.”)

“Stop, there’s a car coming!”

(but “Stop playing with the cat now, Jamie.”)

  in informal or humorous writing, !! or ?! are sometimes used to show strong emotion or loud sounds
  

“Help!!”

“Terry’s been arrested by the police. Arrested?!”
